The Bold 9650 Coming to Sprint

Sprint has announced that it will soon be offering the BlackBerry Bold 9650. The launch date is May 23 and the cost is $300. Sprint likes to say $200 after a $100 mail in rebate, but $300 upfront is $300 upfront. The price is somewhat strange. Even in my distant neck of the woods, far away from civilized lands, the Bold 9700 is offered for less money from AT&T. Perhaps Sprint thinks that many users won’t notice and they may be right. The BlackBerry Bold 9650 features a 3.2MP camera and no trackball, that has become the bane of users everywhere. It has a relatively small 2.44 inch display on a 480 x 360 resolution. The Bold 9650 doesn’t look like the catch of the summer, but it should make more than a few wireless enthusiasts happy with their purchase. There are several…

Farmville Coming to iPhone and iPad?

Farmville, the popular Facebook application, is coming to the iPhone and iPad… apparently. The blogosphere is reporting that the domain farmvilleiphone.com has been secured by Zynga, the same company responsible for the Facebook version. Millions of Facebook peons are ecstatic at the news. However, just because a company secures the iPhone version of their domain name, does not indicate that such a release is imminent. Many tech and web firms have dozens, if not hundreds, of domain names for numerous and varied reasons. While an iPad version of Farmville does make sense, it has not been confirmed either. Another claim has been that it is unknown whether or not there will be an App Store version, or just a web version of the game. The assumption is made because of the…

T-Mobile Launching VOD Mobile in the UK

New movies-on-demand service is ready to take flight in the UK. Specifically, T-Mobile is offering the services of Saffron Digital to those who purchase the HTC Desire. It has been announced that Warner Bros is affiliated with this new venture. Customers will be able to select and purchase a single movie and then possess a 48 hour window to watch said flick. Prices vary from 3.49 pounds for new releases to 2.49 pounds for older movies. T-Mobile head of handset and device marketing Nicola Shenton was very upbeat about the whole affair. We anticipate the Desire being one of our most popular handsets of 2010, and the VOD+ service makes it an even greater value for our customers," she said. “As the service is unique to T-Mobile, it will also be a key differentiator for…

Droid Incredible to Cause Nexus One Delay?

Some debate is raging in the blogosphere regarding the release of the Nexus One on Verizon. As we all know, The HTC Droid Incredible will be available from Verizon on April 29. This has caused some speculators and basement bloggers to question whether or not Verizon still plans on releasing the Nexus One at the end of April. The Nexus One website currently lists the release of the handset for Verizon in the spring of 2010. While the release of the Droid Incredible may cause a delay in the launch of the Nexus One phone, the device should still see store shelves no later than the summer. Those wishing to obtain the HTC Droid Incredible can pre-order a unit now online. The biggest question out of all of this in my humble opinion is the name. Who was the fool that came up…

Best Buy to Open 1000 Mobile Locations

Best Buy, the world’s largest electronic retailer, has announced plans to open $1,000 mobile phone locations in the United States. Chief Executive Brian Dunn made the announcement to the Financial Times recently. Best Buy earnings have been positive of late, with the increasing revenue being attributed to the improvement of the global economy. However, with the hard number showing the world economy is not improving, and is in fact continuing to spiral downwards into oblivion, Best Buy’s recent financial success must be linked to other influences and measures. Best Buy has become a major retailer in the mobile industry over the last year, with a growing emphasis by the company to satisfy the ever increasing appetites of mobile consumers. This is evident by the large and…

    Apple’s Propaganda knows no Bounds

I am stunned when I see reports from clueless bloggers regarding Apple and the iPad. Several blogs have reported that the international release date in Europe has been postponed because of huge demand in the United States. Even CNN ran an article saying that Apple has had trouble keep up with demand. There are two reasons why all of this is a bunch of bull. First of all, Apple intentionally makes fewer units in order to increase hype and demand. If people constantly hear that there are supply problems, they will usually increase their efforts in buying the iPad; as opposed to waiting around if the shelves are fully stocked. Second of all, the reason that the iPad is not available in Europe is because it has yet to be approved. The Wi-Fi guidelines used in Europe are…

HTC Droid Incredible Coming to Verizon

Come April 29, the long anticipated HTC Droid Incredible will be available from Verizon Wireless. The HTC Droid Incredible packs some serious muscle when it comes to technical specifications. It has a larger screen than the iPhone and an 8 MP camera. In addition, the Droid Incredible will feature high-speed 3G and the much beloved Snapdragon processor. The HTC Droid Incredible is the third handset from the Droid series, following the Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Eris. Verizon appears keen on bolstering its already strong lineup of devices over the coming months and the Droid Incredible is another powerful Smartphone on their list. Pricing has not been revealed officially, but it would be a safe wager to assume that the usual two year contract or several hundreds…

    Indians Prefer Phones over Toilets

Indians love cell phones, but don’t like toilets. Strange but true ladies and gentlemen, if you believe the UN University in Canada. There are 545 million mobile phones in India and only about 366 million people have access to toilet facilities. ‘Access’ does not mean they have private facilities. There may very well be million of Indians relying on neighborhood toilets, something unthinkable in the industrialized world. With the average toilet costing 300 USD, Indians simply cannot afford to install one in their home. Defecating outdoors does have some advantages. The breeze can be rather pleasant and nature directly benefits from the ‘contribution’. Constantly we are reminded that India is becoming an economic powerhouse, among the world leaders in technology and…

    HTC to Develop OS?

Could mobile manufacturer HTC be planning on developing its own operating system? Rumors were planted when HTC CFO Cheng Hui-ming confirmed the possibility in a Bloomberg interview. Hui-Ming cited the advantages of a creating both hardware and software, comparing the paths taken by both Apple and RIM as something his company may try to pursue in the future. Such a bold move however would require massive amounts of resources and corporate restructuring.

Hui-ming was also asked by Bloomberg about the possibility of HTC purchasing Palm. Hui-ming was tight lipped regarding the matter, but did reveal that there was no deadline for such a purchase. Palm has been in financial trouble for some time now and several tech firms have already began to sniff around.…

AT&T to Stop Advertising War with Verizon

AT&T and Verizon have been waging war for several months over the tube. Most of us have encountered these obnoxious advertisements where one wireless carrier does its best to point out why the competition is inferior. Most marketing specialists have concluded that negative advertising has limited positive impact on potential subscribers. It appears that AT&T has come to the same conclusion. The second largest wireless carrier has decided to abandon its smear campaign and instead focus on the more positive and innovative traits that it possesses. AT&T is planning on another 2 billion dollars worth of upgrades over the next year to its network. Why exactly the average user will care is a mystery, but there are spins you can put on anything to paint it in a more positive…
