    Samsung Seek Now Available

A new device available now from Sprint is the Samsung Seek M350. Targeting teenagers primarily, the Samsung Seek M350 will run for less than $100 with the obvious crippling contract as part of the deal. Equipped with a QWERTY, the device itself is not exactly state of the art, but is geared more towards a budget focused demographic – like parents purchasing a phone for their teenage child. The Samsung Seek M350 will of course cater to youngsters, thus meaning that Facebook and Twitter will play a primary role in the daily use of the device. The Samsung Seek comes in blue or pink, making it a unisex device. While some parents may consider purchasing this phone for their children, my advice would be to pass and instead not get them a phone at all. In fact, it would be…

Verizon and Google vs. Apple and AT&T

I was always a fan of tag team wrestling as a child and witnessing a tag team matchup of sorts in the tech industry is rather exciting. Verizon and Google are reportedly teaming up to create a tablet which is slated for release (no pun intended) in early 2011. The Verizon Google partnership is only logical if we consider the former’s struggle with AT&T and the latter’s quibbling with Apple. With Apple and AT&T working hand in hand in order to further their agendas, it was only natural for another dynamic duo to eventually stand in their way. Google has been working on many various projects and partnerships in order to further the evolution of the Android. A new alliance with Sony may see Android powered television sets. This on going struggle will mean more tech…

    LG Ally out Next Week

A new Android powered device will be making a debut next week. The LG Ally from Verizon will cost $100, along with a crippling two year contract that we consumers have come to love and appreciate so much. The LG Ally, will come with a 3.2 megapixel camera, an MP3 player, 3G and other standard services that one has come to expect from the simplest of phones. Because the LG Ally does not appear to offer anything out of the ordinary, it is almost laughable that we should consider the two year contract as something other than daylight robbery. It is worth mentioning again for those of you who are not aware of the basic premise when purchasing a new cell phone. Bargain phones should never be purchased with a contract. You will spend two years wondering why the hell you…

    FCC to Combat Bill Shock

The FCC, coming to the aid of the average consumer for the first time, is looking at ways of preventing ‘bill shock’ for mobile customers. The new Consumer Task Force is considering a new initiative where carriers would warn consumers when they are about to incur high fees due to over usage of voice and data. Verizon, behaving like true corporate moguls, have defended their current system, which they believe provides users with all the billing information that they require. For once, I have to say that I am with big business. It is the responsibility of the consumer to keep track of their usage and service enrollments and not pin the blame on the wireless providers. Those who are uneasy should opt to use unlimited services and remove any potential landmines such as free…

Sprint Passes on the Nexus One

Sprint has officially passed on the Nexus One. This became apparent when Google removed all mention of Sprint Nexus One from the Nexus One website. "We are not bringing in Nexus One as EVO 4G is more robust in 3G markets and amazing in the growing number of 4G areas," said a Sprint spokesperson. The Nexus One is still available via T-Mobile and AT&T, but has generally been passed on by many wireless providers and consumers for more advanced HTC handsets. I often get the impression that consumers and business that are big fans of Google do not see such a move as real betrayal. The Android and HTC brands are intertwined in the eyes of the public and because the Android name is synonymous with Google, it is considered to be one and the same. In any case, the…

    China Outsources to India

Shocking news out of the Far East. China Wireless Technologies is opening a new R&D center in India. You know your country is pretty low on the totem pole when a Chinese business outsources to your country. China Wireless Technologies (CWT) has stated that the new plant will be open by 2012. While this move could certainly help CWT take advantage of the large tech workforce in India, it is a sad reality of how far India has fallen. For years we heard that India was a growing economy that was destined to become a giant on a world scale. Ten years afterwards and we find an India with horrendous poverty, abysmal standard of living and now, an outsource destination for China. More attention to human rights, infrastructure and social necessities should be on the minds of…

    Android outsells the iPhone

I guess that it was inevitable. According to the market research firm NPD, Android operated phones outsold the iPhone in the first quarter of this year. Android powered devices were second in total sales in the United States during the beginning of 2010, controlling 28 percent of the market. RIM is still the undisputed king of Smartphones in America, controlling 36 percent of the market. While this report may be sound in numbers, it may not be sound in judgment. The iPhone HD will massively increase sales for Apple upon its release. In fact, most Americans who wanted to purchase an iPhone have already done so. It will be interesting to see a similar report four months after the iPhone HD has been released. This report also did not take corporate clients into…

    iPad Hurting Netbooks?

Suggestions are starting to surface that the iPad may seriously be hurting the sales of netbooks. Morgan Stanley suggests that 44 percent of American consumers are considering the purchase of an iPad and passing on a new notebook or netbook device. Is the iPad a netbook killer? Are the mammoth sales of the iPad an indication of things to come? Not so fast says Stephen Baker, vice president of the market research firm NPD Group. "One month of sales is not a trend on anything -- especially for Apple," Baker said. "One of the things which Apple is great about is building momentum -- and [that] tends to manifest itself very aggressively at the launch of a new product. But whether this is evidence of a long term trend remains to be seen." People often…

    Lady GaGa to Promote iPhoneHD

Apple ha signed pop sensation Lady GaGa to promote the upcoming iPhone HD. It has been reported that Lady GaGa will be featured in several advertisements and campaigns leading up to the release of the new iPhone. Is this a smart business decision by Apple? On paper it most certainly is. Lady GaGa is probably the most popular singer in the world over the last 12 months and is worshiped by many misguided teens that are also the frontrunners to purchase new Apple products. However, many adults and techies are likely to be put off by this move. As far as the adults are concerned, Lady GaGa does not appeal to them in the same manner as today’s youth and many 25-50 year olds are not particularly fond of the image or music genre that Lady GaGa provides. Techies might be more…

Apple to Patent Heartbeat ID Technology?

Apple appears to be continuing their relentless goal of human domination. Apple is a seeking a patent for heartbeat ID technology. This will supposedly allow a device to recognize the user for security purposes. This is great in theory, but there are many reasons for an erratic heartbeat that need to be addressed prior to such a technology becoming feasible in our day to day existence. No, there is another reason Apple is looking to secure this latest technological advancement. It is rather worrisome as to why Apple wants heartbeat ID. In any case, I am not entirely convinced that such a patent is pertinent. The mobile industry is teaching us time and time again that patents carry very little weight when it comes to technology. There are so many lawsuits on the docket…
