Best Buy, the world’s largest electronic retailer, has announced plans to open $1,000 mobile phone locations in the United States. Chief Executive Brian Dunn made the announcement to the Financial Times recently. Best Buy earnings have been positive of late, with the increasing revenue being attributed to the improvement of the global economy. However, with the hard number showing the world economy is not improving, and is in fact continuing to spiral downwards into oblivion, Best Buy’s recent financial success must be linked to other influences and measures. Best Buy has become a major retailer in the mobile industry over the last year, with a growing emphasis by the company to satisfy the ever increasing appetites of mobile consumers. This is evident by the large and comprehensive collection of mobile devices that can be found at the majority of locations, leading one to believe that Best Buy considers handsets to have the same or greater importance than computers and large screen television sets.
