iPhones Running Out in the UK

UK mobile carrier O2 has issued an alert to all those interested in purchasing an iPhone. It seems that stock is dangerously low right now and O2 has issued a statement that online availability of the iPhone may not be possible for an undisclosed time frame. Retail stock is only fairing marginally better, with some iPhones available through O2 retail at Carphone Warehouse. O2 tried to put the hordes of angry Brits at ease by claiming that they are concentrating all their efforts into making more stock available and that they are working in tandem with Apple to make sure that this iPhone drought is solved by the end of the summer. O2 apparently…

PSP Cell Phone Coming in October

Circle the middle of October in red on your calendars people, because that’s when the Play Station Portable joins the cell phone industry. Sony has announced that the latest addition of their super popular portable gaming console, the PSP, will double as a cell phone. This new cell phone video game hybrid will be released in the United States and Europe, with no timetable present for release in other parts of the world. The dilemma here for Sony is the target market. Is this a cell phone with gaming capabilities, much like the iPhone and a few others out there, or is this a game console that doubles as a phone. As far as gaming is concerned, no cell phone comes close to competing with the PSP. The only problem may be the physical alteration, which would be of paramount…

ZTE Releases the C79 in North America

ZTE has announced the release of the C79 phone in North America. The C79, to be carried exclusively by MetroPCS, is a CDMA AWS flip phone. Aside from the Mp3 player, the C79 will also come with 60MB of memory specifically designed for games and applications. Even though ZTE should be commended for adding Bluetooth and picture messaging to a phone that is considered part of the lower bracket as far as price is concerned, the 1.3 Megapixel camera is a bit of a disappointment. The C79 operates on an AWS frequency, but is also capable of using PCS and Cellular bands. The catch with the C79, much like all bargains phones, is the bang for your buck factor. While the price being charged by MetroPCS isn’t exactly clear, one figures anything over $150 may be considered too…

New Travel Guide Available Through Nokia Maps and Lonely Planet

Nokia has joined forces with travel expert Lonely Planet in order to offer tourism and travel services to users of Nokia handsets. This new service will be available through Nokia Maps and will cost 7.99 British Pounds. (That’s about 350 American dollars.) This new travel guide will give recommendations regarding popular tourism destinations and attractions, such as bars, restaurants and much more. Lonely Planet and Nokia claim to have over 100 destinations online and more to come in the near future. Questions still revolve around the possible application’s integration with GPS services and whether or not destinations released in the future will cost an additional sum. Stephen Palmer, head hound at Lonely Planet Publications could hardly contain his excitement when he…

    Nokia Comes with Games

It appears that besides mobile advertising, the next big brouhaha in the cell phone industry is games. Even though video games on cell phones is nothing new, Nokia’s plan to launch the ‘Comes with Games’ service has caused a lot of hype to spread across the mobile landscape. Following the successful ‘Comes with Music’, Nokia has obviously set its sights on gaming in order improve customers' mobile experience and better the lifestyle of Fins, Laplanders and little gnomes in underground lairs. This new and bold initiative by Nokia is sure to anger some mobile carriers who will undoubtedly loss traffic and purchases in their own mobile service. Nokia’s ‘Comes with Music’ has been a rousing success, at least that’s what the critics are saying, and there is no reason why

Apple Issues Software to Fix iPhone Bug

Apple has released a software update that fixes the 3G issues that have been plaguing the iPhone since its release. Apple however, has shamefully admitted that this update only partially fixes the problem and that iPhone customers will still experience dropped calls and network discrepancy. Michael Gartenberg, vice president for mobile strategy at Jupitermedia gave this rather naïve observation: We've seen these isolated reports about people having connectivity issues with 3G and Edge, and frankly I have those issues on a variety of phones," he says. "Cellphone coverage is tricky." Listen Mike; if you’re going to charge an arm and a leg for a product, whether it’s by contract or by a high…

The Skypephone S2 is now for Sale

The Skypephone S2 will only hit stores on the first of September, but pre-orders for the new Skypephone are now being taken. While the expected free messaging and voice calls to other Skype users is obviously available, the S2 comes armed with social media ammunition along the likes of Google, Windows Live, Facebook and RSS feeds. The Skypephone S2 (awkward name) also keeps up with the times when compared to other cell phones. A 3.2 megapixel camera and 4G of expandable memory mean that the S2 is no slouch when it comes to specs. A 2.2 QVGA screen and sharp good looks mean that Skype is taking one step closer to becoming a mainstream member in the mobile phone market. A touch better sound quality and some decent marketing may very well mean that traditional phone…

A New App Called PhoneFace is Available on the BlackBerry

A new and cute little app called PhoneFace is now available for the BlackBerry. Basically, PhoneFace allows you make text messages or phone calls by click on a picture rather than a name, phone number, or whatever other kind of method you use to select the lucky party who will be receiving your call. What’s nice about PhoneFace is its compatibly with FaceBook. Users of this social media abomination will be able to upload their pictures to their BlackBerry. This app isn’t free however, and the price tag of $9.95 may be a little steep for an app that doesn’t really do much. I would only recommend purchasing this app if you’re one of those people that get off using the neat but impractical. The PhoneFace is…

Verizon Ranked Number One in Customer Service

In a shocking and hard to believe survey conducted by J.D. Power study, Verizon ranked number one in customer service for cell phone carriers in the United States. Verizon, known for blocking third party content from their cell phones and for behaving thuggishly towards their customers, beat out Alltel, T-Mobile and AT&T in this coveted and somewhat suspicious study. J.D. claims that Verizon customers were particularly happy with the level of service and quick solutions offered by Verizon. That isn’t saying much however, because Nazi like organizations are forced to offer disgruntled customers good service at times or they run the risk of a revolt. Thus, Verizon is able to bluff its customers into…

    New Palm Treo Pro Smartphone

Without a launch date or an official price tag, the Palm Treo Pro has stirred some excitement in the mobile handset community. Powered by Windows Mobile, this touch screen phone comes with Wi-Fi, HSDPA, infrared, Bluetooth, microSD and a 3.5mm earphone socket. The Palm Treo Pro will also include software like Adobe Reader and Telnav. The Treo Pro looks sharp and appears to combine a pleasant mixture of futurism and superiority in its crisp black look. The screen and keyboard do appear somewhat on the small side on the Treo Pro and it remains to be seen how this new cell phone will perform in Western hands. Of course with Smartphones, easy navigation is of paramount importance. The numerous tools and functions could indicate a problem of nightmarish proportions if the…
