    Yet another Internet Fool

Looks like people haven’t learned the most important lesson of our generation. It is that the internet is extremely public and anything you do on it can and will be seen by somebody. Case in point: A Best Buy employee will probably be canned due to two YouTube movies that he or she created which make fun of iPhone and EVO 4G fanboys. Apparently Best Buy wasn’t exactly thrilled with either movie, that have combined to total 2.5 million views. The reason for Best Buy’s displeasure is unclear, as neither movie mentioned the electronic retailer’s name. Regardless of the reason, the employee deserves whatever they get. People continue to be naïve when it comes to the internet and how in reality it is a megaphone that can and will reach everyone eventually. Some examples are…

Bank Offers Check Deposit via iPhone

iPhone customers who have the misfortune of banking with JPMorgan Chase can now enjoy a new feature that will allow them to deposit their checks from their iPhone device. By downloading the JPMorgan Chase application, users can deposit some hard earned money by taking a picture of both sides of the check and submitting them to the bank. In addition to this nifty service, users can also send money to other bank accounts, check their account balance and use a host of other painful tools. We can assume (or at least hope) that security is up to par with this new check feature. As more and more people treat their mobile device as a banking portal, rogues, cyber pirates and other scoundrels are sure to cause some trouble. The check deposit feature will be free of charge,…

New Yahoo! Services for the Android

Yahoo! has released three new services for the Android operating system. Yahoo! Mail, Messenger and Search are now available for Android 2.0 and higher. While all three services can be downloaded separately, Yahoo! has developed integration between the three that will allow users to switch between the tools easily. The Yahoo! Messenger will include push notification and the Yahoo! Mail will allow users to upload photos, just to name a few advantages. While the Yahoo service is a nice change of pace from Google, there is no chance in a blue hell that Yahoo! will become a major player in the mobile software and mobile web markets. This is Microsoft syndrome all over again, meaning it is almost impossible for a third party to compete with a similar service on a platform…

New Hulu App for the iPhone

The television streaming service called Hulu is now available on the iPhone. This free application will allow iPhone users to watch television shows on their iPhone. Hulu can be downloaded for free, but is limited in the selection of television content that can be viewed without purchasing a Hulu Plus subscription which will run at $10 a month. The Hulu Plus has a large selection of shows that will keep the average television buff occupied on many a bus ride home. However, the success of Hulu Plus is does not entirely rest on the company's shoulders. With mobile industry shift into purchasing content online, (apps, iTunes, etc…) it is possible that Hulu will not be able to make its way into the budget considerations of many potential customers. Companies are fighting…

Make an Informed Dump with Toilet Finder

There is nothing worse than walking along, minding your own business, and then suddenly feeling an agonizing bowel movement that needs to be addressed with all due haste. Now ladies and gentlemen, there is an app for that. A French company (leave it to the French to come up with something like this) called BeTomorrow has created a new application for the iPhone and Android called Toilet Finder which will guide users to the nearest facilities in North America and Europe. There are over 76,000 registered locations and Toilet Finder uses GPS in order to reveal the nearest location where you can drop the ‘bomb’. There is also a user rating and pictures to help make an informed decision regarding which bathroom to use. If you have the luxury of taking the time make that…

No Text Message Privacy for Public Employees

Idiots will always be idiots. However, it appears that California attracts more people of low intelligence than other places. The latest round of idiocy came from the Ontario, California police department. Several police officers sued the city because the text messages on their work related phones were read by their superiors, exposing sexual affairs and other personal use. Employees were told that light personal use of their government issued phones was acceptable. A judge sided with the city, claiming that public employers had the right to search through and read public servant emails in order to ensure that the taxpayer was not paying for the individual’s personal text messaging. The idiot cops in this case should not have been surprised. In addition, if you plan on…

Adult Text more than Teenagers while Driving?

Looks like teenagers are as prone to texting while driving as are adults. This surprising revelation came about during a study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project which claims that 50% of all adult drivers text while operating an automotive while only one in three teenagers fall into the same category. Before youth starting pointing an accusing finger at their elders, it should be noted that this study grouped anyone at or above the age of 18 into the adult category. Since the maturity of those 18-25 is not much greater than those at the age of 16 and 17, a sound argument could be made regarding this flaw in the study. It would have been more interesting to group adults at 30+ and youth at under that. We could all be sure that the findings would be different…

Starbucks to Offer Free Wi-Fi in the U.S.

Lovers of the expensive and horribly overrated coffee at Starbucks will now have access to free Wi-Fi at all U.S. locations. But it is not just Wi-FI that has Starbucks patrons jumping for joy. The largest coffee chain in the world has also announced that it is entering into a digital renaissance. Called the Starbucks Digital Network, this new and exciting service offers a whole slew of content. Examples include The Wall Street Journal and iTunes. Good for Starbucks for this innovative new service that will improve the overall consumer experience dramatically. Starbucks Digital Network is completely free and is provided in conjunction with Yahoo. Of course, ‘free’ may not be the correct description regarding cost. Starbucks coffee is so over priced that even free Wi-Fi…

10 Reasons Why I won’t buy the iPhone HD

1.iTunes. Someone once said, ‘Give me freedom, or give me death.’

2.Adult Entertainment: I like porn dammit and no geek in Cupertino is going to decide if I can download some to my phone.

3.Apple. As much as I respect Steve Jobs and Apple, I feel like I am signing a deal with the devil.

4.HTC. It just that much better.

5.The App Store: For a service that has a serious and rigid approval process, there is a surprising amount of crap to be found.

6.Icons: I’m tired of looking at those fruity icons.

7.No MicroSD: Really Apple? Are you that insecure?

8.Claustrophobia: Apple products make me feel like I’m stuck in a maze with no exit.

9.Coolness: The iPhone used to look cool. Now every other Smartphone…

British Carriers Snubbed by European Court

EU court has rejected an appeal by four British carriers who oppose the cell phone cap that has been implemented by the highest level of government. The four British carriers in question are O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange. The four oppose the roaming fee cap on mobile devices that is designed to relieve ‘bill shock’ that many Europeans experience when travelling in their own ‘country’. While the British carriers may have a case from a financial perspective, they do not have a case from a political one. If the European Union is going to behave like a country, then it needs to abolish roaming fees entirely. As has been stated by many over the last few months, you cannot have a fiscal union without political union. If the British carriers don’t want to be part of the…
