UN are worried of mobile phone growth & disposal – Well, it’s about time.

The use of mobile phones has grown exponentially from the first few users in the 70’s to more than three billion in April, 2008. Sooner or later these phones will be discarded, whole or in parts. Part of the problem arises when developed countries recycle their old mobile phones by refurbishing them and then selling the handsets to developing countries that are hungry for the technology. Many developing nations don’t have the infrastructure to deliver landline phone and Internet, and mobile technology is perfect for such situations. Cell towers are relatively cheap and can deliver a large stream of information in remote places. Well, as we all know, many of the poorer nations don’t have the resources to properly dispose of cell phones. All handsets have some metals and

Fusion Voicemail Plus by PhoneFusion

This is amazing, fusion Voicemail Plus centralizes all of your voicemail boxes and presents your voicemail messages visually on your mobile handset. Instead of receiving voicemails in separate boxes for your mobile number, home number, VoIP number, office number, etc everything goes to your Phone-Fusion One voicemail box. The messages are then displayed visually on your handset. Each entry displays caller info and incoming number along with your number corresponding to the relevant phone service - so you know if the caller dialed your mobile number or home number for example. And did we mention that the service is completely free? Phone Fusion has a long-standing history providing the Fusion Voicemail Plus service for Windows Mobile. The service is currently in beta for

Motorola to release MING A1600 and MING A1800

Another Motorola device announcement, the MING A1600 and A1800 with remarkably little fanfare. Both handsets are quite the same, both sporting GPS, touch-screens, Linux in, A2DP, only 3 megapixel camera, and ct. The CDMA/GSM hybrid A1800 sports support for two simultaneous network connections, while the GSM-only A1600 tops out at EDGE. Is moto crippling their GSM handsets with lowly EDGE connections? The Chinese target market is certainly part of the problem here, but you’d think they would at least, make some effort at a global launch with HSDPA support. Ah, we know! Because their MOTOMAXG OS doesn’t support 3G. That’s right! No pricing or release date info is available, but we wouldn’t hold our breath either way just to find out.

Waiting so long for native HTML email support on BlackBerrys. RIM is planning on upgrading their U.S. BIS system later this month, bringing a host of updates in anticipation of the arrival of their next-generation 9xxx device family. Most significantly, v2.5 of BIS will include support for HTML email delivery and rendering, a move that should finally bring the ‘Berry’s email appearance out of the stone-age. Further enhancements include support for OTA upgrades, calendar improvements, and a bit more. Bear in mind that your particular device will have to support these new features in order to allow you to take full advantage of the update, but seeing as we’ll all be carrying shiny new BlackBerry Bolds by the end of next month, the way of nature.

Supernova by Nokia - For Women only!

Don’t expect to find thorough reviews of all Nokia’s latest and greatest solutions, however if it’s a lowdown on pricing, availability and target audience that you are after, then look no further. The entire collection comprises of three handsets - Nokia 7310, Nokia 7510 and Nokia 7610. And it should be fairly easy to figure out that all three models come in different form-factors: candybar, clamshell and slider. Nokia is no stranger to this approach and last time it worked out very well for them. Back when they were still in development, these phones were codenamed after semiprecious stones, hence a slew of images featuring these phones alongside some fancy crystals.

iPhone's Next Gain: Porn

Apple may be golden because of the iPhone, sure but the soon-to-be-updated device is also increasingly the source of forbidden fruit. Steve Jobs' company is keeping a civil, if embarrassed, silence on one of the potentially most lucrative and controversial uses of its handheld jewel: porn. The technological feats of the 3G iPhone are key to the coming pornucopia. To date, mobile porn has consisted largely of still images, racy text services and "moan tones," which are sultry-sounding ringtones. In Europe there is an active market for video chatting; customers pay on average $50 a month to exchange dirty messages with actresses. But now, thanks in large part to the iPhone's video dexterity, short clips are becoming a staple of the mobile porn business. The

Caution: 'Skin tenna' wireless signals creeps over human skin

Signal stopperCompact "patch" antennas that lie flat on the skin have been made before. But they make poor connectors because most of their signals travel away from the body, not along it.
Mast-style 'monopole' antennas like those on cars are better at transmitting laterally. But still transmit upwards too.
Now, Scanlon and Conway have designed a version that that channels much more of its signal sideways by taking advantage of the "creeping wave" effect that allows waves to travel along a surface. The same effect is responsible for both a person's ears hearing a sound only directed at one side of their head.
Flipped mastMonopole antennas stand on a plate of conductive material – like a car roof – to reflect signals travelling downwards.
