I guess that it was inevitable. According to the market research firm NPD, Android operated phones outsold the iPhone in the first quarter of this year. Android powered devices were second in total sales in the United States during the beginning of 2010, controlling 28 percent of the market. RIM is still the undisputed king of Smartphones in America, controlling 36 percent of the market. While this report may be sound in numbers, it may not be sound in judgment. The iPhone HD will massively increase sales for Apple upon its release. In fact, most Americans who wanted to purchase an iPhone have already done so. It will be interesting to see a similar report four months after the iPhone HD has been released. This report also did not take corporate clients into consideration. Doing so however, would not have favored Apple, but rather RIM, whose BlackBerry devices are the default mobile device for most big businesses. This report really hammers home an important point: while Apple and Android continue to fight for second place, RIM is by far the cell phone overlord.
