Apple Hardware VP Axed
It looks like Steve Jobs has dropped a guillotine on the individual he believes is mostly responsible for the Antennagate scandal that has rocked Cupertino since the release of the iPhone 4. Apple’s VP of hardware Engineering, one Mark Papermaster, has ‘left’ the company. More likely that Papermaster was unceremoniously ushered into Jobs’ office, where the great Czar informed him that it would be in ‘his’ best interest to leave. A nice severance package was offered, fake smiles and uncomfortable handshakes followed and that is where the relationship ended. If there was any justice, it would be Jobs himself that would have made an exit. Android Number One in the United States
Call it what you will, but it is getting harder and harder to dispute the fact that Android is now king of the Smartphone market in North America. Android powered phones outsold both RIM and iPhone devices, earning a staggering 33% of the total market share in the second quarter of this year. By contrast, BlackBerry devices totaled 28% of units sold and the iPhone came in third with 22%. The best selling Android devices were Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Hero and HTC Droid Eris. Fool Your iPhone 4 with My3G
There is no end in sight to mobile applications designed to satisfy a very small market segment. This time the application that is sure to be worthless to most, but a wet dream to 5% of iPhone users is called My3G. The app My3G is designed to fool the iPhone 4 into thinking that it is using Wi-Fi, when it is using 3G instead. iPhone 4 users who are fans of the FaceTime service, which allows two iPhone 4 devices to conduct a video chat, can only use the application with Wi-Fi. My3G solves that problem. Don’t expect the same quality with 3G however. Jailbreaking Is Legal
Apple took a slap across the face from The Library of Congress yesterday, when the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was amended to officially make jailbreaking legal. Apple's statement to this change in law was as follows: "Apple's goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we've said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably." This also means ‘jailbreak all you want, but we aren’t going to cover your ass if anything goes wrong.’ Apple is of course correct when denying any responsibility for ruined iPhones as a result…

There was much bickering and arguing between mobile manufacturers after Apple presented its now infamous defense in the Antennagate scandal. Things have been unclear for a while, but now all of our questions have been answered. Why? Because ze Germans have gotten involved. A consumer protection group called Stiftung Warentest has investigated the iPhone reception problem and has reached a conclusion that Apple haters are sure to enjoy. The problem is 100% Apple fault and there is no way for Apple to defend their poor design of the iPhone 4. When investigating, Stiftung Warentest discovered that simply placing a finger over the antenna gap in the lower left corner of the iPhone 4 could cause a reception drop of 90%. White iPhone 4 Delayed Yet Again
Those of you, who were holding off on the iPhone 4 until the white version was released, are now out of luck. Apple has announced that the white version of the iPhone 4 will not be released until the end of the year. An official statement from the company explained that the manufacturing of the white iPhone 4 has proven to be most challenging. Of course, we all now that Apple has postponed the release of the new iPhone due to the recent Antennagate crisis. After all, there is nothing different between the black and white versions of the iPhone 4 except the color and possibly a bit of material. Consumer Reports Snubs Apple Fix
Continuing coverage of Apple’s attempt to solve the reception crisis of the iPhone 4 has brought about an interesting turn of events from Consumer Reports. The independent reviewer previously stated that it was unable to give the iPhone 4 a recommendation due to the reception problems that have plagued the device. After the press conference in which Steve Jobs announced that Apple would be distributing cases which should rectify the problem, Consumer Reports had this to say: Consumer Reports believes Apple’s offer of free cases is a good first step.
