New Weed App for the iPhone

Those of you who are partial to the Ganja will be shocked and overjoyed to discover that a new marijuana app is now available in the app store. The new app, appropriately dubbed Cannabis, reveals locations where one can get a quick and legal fix of marijuana. (We are assuming that the majority of locations revealed in this app will be medical facilities, but there may be a Sherpa or two.) How Apple can allow a drug related app (not that I have any problem with it ;) and not other apps because a faint outline of a nipple can be seen is beyond me. I honestly believe that somebody on the app store staff is sitting in a basement in Cupertino and randomly flipping coins in order to approve or disapprove new apps. Nevertheless, the addition of the Cannabis app just goes to…

    Pre Coming to Bell

Rumors are running wild on the World Wide Web that the Palm Pre is set to debut in Canada at the end of August. The Pre, Palm’s answer to the iPhone and its only legitimate chance of staving off bankruptcy, will be distributed via Bell, Canada’s original communications provider and a former crown corporation. Bell is hoping the Pre will somewhat even the playing field in the Canadian communications and entertainment industries, with Rogers being the current undisputed King. While the Pre launch with Sprint in the United States was less than stellar, Bell is banking on Palm learning from its mistakes and hoping the impending launch will go off without a hitch. The Pre suffered from several delays in the United States until its release, yet still managed to sell over…

    New Hebrew Bible App 2.0

Apple has given the go ahead for the newest version of the Hebrew Bible app by Bill Clementson. Version 2.0 includes many useful additions, such as Google Maps of over 1,000 locations of religious significance, 200 Wiki links and 8 eight different versions. This app certainly receives a round of applause from the diligent (at times) staff in our smelly little office. The biggest news about the Hebrew Bible app is not the app itself, but rather the rating given by the geniuses at Apple. What is the rating you ask? 17+ due to the mature themes found in Wikipedia. The individual in charge of the app store makes Stalin, Lenin and Fidel Castro look like a trio of forward thinking democrats. Any religious app may contain some mature themes, but anything above Apple’s 12+…

TwitVid Now for the iPhone 3GS

TwitVid is now available on the iPhone 3GS. For those of you who don’t know, TwitVid is pretty much as it sounds. It allows you to tweet videos on Twitter. That apparently is a wet dream come true for many a Twitter and iPhone user. To tweet a video, all you have to do is create a new tweet and then upload your video. The coolest feature of TwitVid is that it allows others to begin watching your video before the upload has completed. Much like Twitter in fact, the main appeal of TwitVid is its user friendly interface. TwitVid is compatible with an iPhone or iTouch running operating system 3.0. To record videos, one naturally requires the iPhone 3GS. As if we weren’t all such Prima Donnas already that we had to tell everyone exactly what we were doing at any given time,…

    New Coffee App Called Barista

Eventually, everyone gets their hands on an espresso machine. Either as a wedding gift or during a metro sexual phase when you thought espresso would make you the talk of the party. Regardless of why, the question most espresso machine owners have is how. How the hell do you make decent espresso? That is usually followed by why anybody would drink this stuff to being with. If you’re ready to delve into the world of hot Italian beverage delight, (or as Italian as an espresso machine can get) then you can use a new app called Barista on your iPhone to guide you along. The Barista is a $0.99 app that will help you make coffee. (I’m guessing it also teaches you about cappuccino.) I personally prefer good old Tim Horton’s coffee, but I am a bit old school and cheap…

    State of the App

There is an interesting article at cnnmoney.com that takes a closer look at profits being generated in the Apple App Store. While the numbers are not impressive for app creators thus far, (most are hobbyists or companies looking for a marketing platform) the potential is staggering. I am not sure how much I agree with that line of thinking. Currently, the average PC game costs $40 and software will run a customer anywhere from $30 to $200 on average. The mobile software potential is apparent, but to think that consumers will be able and willing to spend computer software prices for the iPhone is still light years away. Apps need to not only become more advanced and robust, they also need to give the market the illusion that the app is worth the money. As of right now,…

Is the iPhone Popular in Japan?

Could Apple be really number one in Japan? After countless surveys that claimed Japanese mobile users were not impressed by Apple’s Smartphone, a new survey contradicts this line of thinking. A survey conducted by BCN reveals that the iPhone is the number one selling Smartphone in Japan. BCN surveyed 2,300 different retailers and came to this shocking conclusion. While it is possible that the iPhone has only recently started to warm the hearts of manga and anime addicts, to go from near the bottom of the pile to king of the hill seems a little to hard too swallow. Either all other iPhone surveys conducted in Japan are worthless piles of horse dung, (possible) or BCN’s survey is worth less than stock in a U.S. bank. (Probable) In either case, this whole affair has…

    Facebook 3.0

Facebook users are salivating over the new version of the app that is designed to take advantage of the new iPhone OS 3.0. While the new mobile version of Facebook is still buggy and requires some more polish, the list of new features is sure to excite even the most casual Facebook user. Facebook 3.0 will include uploading photos, photo zoom, notes, quick call and text from the Friends page, a new home screen design, easier photo tagging and much more. While some grumbling has already been heard by Facebook pessimists over the new layout, optimists are excited about the prospect of more features and easier navigation. Facebook has promised to add Push Notifications, which is scheduled for release as part of the Facebook 3.1 version sometime in the future. This is all…

    New Coupon App Called Yowza

Remember the good old days when your father would sit in the living room on the weekends and spend hours upon hours carefully and methodically cutting out newspaper coupons? That was pretty much the moment we all realized that we were smarter than our parents. (Notice I say smarter and not wiser.) Now a new iPhone app called Yowza will let you use digital coupons instead of paper ones. (Saves us from ending up with a George Costanza wallet.) All you have to do is show the digital coupon on your iPhone at the register to get the discount associated. The simplicity of the idea does not detract from its usefulness in my opinion. The most interesting detail about this app however, is that it was created by Greg Grunberg, who plays mind reader Matt Parkman on the television…

AT&T Navigator Available for iPhone 3.0

With the upgrade to the 3.0 OS, AT&T has now deemed the iPhone worthy of its app, the AT&T Navigator. The AT&T Navigator, which will run for $9.99, comes with automatic content updates, speech recognition, 3D Maps, online trip planning and more. The AT&T Navigator, which recently won some insignificant award for best navigation app, is considered to be one of the premier applications of its kind. iPhone users without the 3.0 operating system cannot enjoy the Navigator. I must confess that I have never used GPS on a phone, but I have always pondered about the size of the screen. Even the iPhone’s rather large screen is small when compared to most GPS devices. It is a little to narrow as well, with many GPS devices using a square instead of rectangular screen. On the…
