The UAE to Block some BlackBerry Services?

Underneath the façade of glamour and prosperity in the United Arab Emirates exists an unfortunate reminder that the country does not understand the basic premise of human rights and privacy. (Not that the United States has been doing such a bang up job in the human rights department over the last several years.) The UAE is threatening to ban some of the services offered by RIM on its BlackBerry devices. The problem is the information sent and received by BlackBerry users is heavily encrypted and managed by RIM servers. (Unlike Samsung, LG and others that do not encrypt most of the data on their mobile phones.) The UAE is worried that antigovernment parties will use BlackBerry devices in order to harness the manifesto of opposition and discontent with the ruling body.…

School Gets Sued for Searching Student’s Phone

An angry Texan is looking to cash in on a mistake made by a high school called MacArthur, in a town called Irving. The scandal took place when school administrators and a police officer asked one Madelyn Beaird, a student at MacArthur High School, to allow them to search her phone in order to solve a crime involving a gun and several keyed automobiles. The father of the student is suing for 7.5 million dollars. The conniving jackal is not even hiding the fact that this is a quick cash grab. “I remember back when hot coffee was spilled in the McDonald’s law suit. They were awarded $4.5 M. I said you know, I guess a constitutional right is worth at least $4M today. It is worth at least a cup of coffee,” said the ‘concerned’ parent. Does the lawsuit have legs? I’m no…

Fool Your iPhone 4 with My3G

There is no end in sight to mobile applications designed to satisfy a very small market segment. This time the application that is sure to be worthless to most, but a wet dream to 5% of iPhone users is called My3G. The app My3G is designed to fool the iPhone 4 into thinking that it is using Wi-Fi, when it is using 3G instead. iPhone 4 users who are fans of the FaceTime service, which allows two iPhone 4 devices to conduct a video chat, can only use the application with Wi-Fi. My3G solves that problem. Don’t expect the same quality with 3G however. The reason Apple blocked 3G use with FaceTime is because it felt most carrier networks were not ready for the strenuous demands which the service requires. My3G does have one major drawback. The application can only work on a…

RIM Secures the Domain Name Blackpad

BlackBerry is making a pad? The answer is probably as most technical firms are either in the midst of or currently contemplating, making a product similar to the iPad. It appears that many companies are blinded to Apple accomplishments and could be perhaps foolishly attempting to mimic an idea that could hardly be decreed a success at this time. RIM is no exception, as the Canadian based mobile manufacturer has purchased the domain name Blackpad. Rumors are describing the BlackBerry pad/tablet/slate as a seven inch screen powerhouse with a 1GHz processor and the BlackBerry 6 operating system. That doesn’t mean much. What we do know is that RIM will have to make the Blackpad business oriented, as it does not have the social and entertainment services in its app store…

FBI Going after Prepaid Cell Phone Users

In an attempt to destroy any remaining freedom that was once the hallmark of American society, the FBI has endorsed a proposal by the Senate Judiciary Committee that would require prepaid cell phone buyer’s information records be kept in a similar fashion to standard cell phone purchases. As of right now, drug dealers and other rogues use prepaid cell phones because it is more difficult to discover their personal information and identity. It seems that the FBI and the Federal Government have forgotten one of the most famous quotes in American history. ‘They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.’ Unfortunately, such independent thinking has long since evaporated and is now more myth than fact. It is…

    AT&T and RIM Joining Forces?

Rumors are making their way across the blogosphere regarding the new BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider phone. Suspicions were raised initially when AT&T and RIM announced a joint press conference on August 3rd. While there is no clear indication regarding the announcement’s intent, there is little doubt in the minds of tech gurus as to the agenda. It is also expected that RIM will be displaying the new and exciting BlackBerry 6 mobile operating system. RIM is still the Smartphone king in the United States, controlling roughly 42% of the Smartphone market. AT&T is the second largest wireless provider in the country, second to Verizon by only a small margin. On AT&T’s part, this maybe be a crucial move as they attempt to prepare themselves for the day when their exclusive…

    Microsoft Announces New Partnerships

Microsoft has announced the manufacturers that will be releasing WP7 powered phones by the end of this year. The manufacturers are LG, Dell, Samsung, HTC and Asus. Microsoft has not denied that they are using the Google approach to Android. This ideology means flooding the market with numerous phones on multiple wireless providers. In theory, this business strategy is sound. The only question is how good the WP7 will be and how the market will embrace the mobile operating system. The Windows brand is still amongst the most popular and trusted in the world and Microsoft would be wise to flaunt the operating system in fill view of potential consumers. Tech geeks for the most part would frown upon the use of WP7, with many considering it an inferior operating system.…

    Jailbreaking Is Legal

Apple took a slap across the face from The Library of Congress yesterday, when the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was amended to officially make jailbreaking legal. Apple's statement to this change in law was as follows: "Apple's goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we've said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably." This also means ‘jailbreak all you want, but we aren’t going to cover your ass if anything goes wrong.’ Apple is of course correct when denying any responsibility for ruined iPhones as a result…

Antennagate Proved to be Apple’s Fault Entirely

There was much bickering and arguing between mobile manufacturers after Apple presented its now infamous defense in the Antennagate scandal. Things have been unclear for a while, but now all of our questions have been answered. Why? Because ze Germans have gotten involved. A consumer protection group called Stiftung Warentest has investigated the iPhone reception problem and has reached a conclusion that Apple haters are sure to enjoy. The problem is 100% Apple fault and there is no way for Apple to defend their poor design of the iPhone 4. When investigating, Stiftung Warentest discovered that simply placing a finger over the antenna gap in the lower left corner of the iPhone 4 could cause a reception drop of 90%. This explains the dropped calls, poor reception and…
