The Police to Use Text Messaging to Capture Criminals

The D.C. Police Department, long proven to be inept at solving the city’s shameful crime record, have clutched at a new form of desperation with a city wide text messaging crime report that went online on October 15. The D.C. police are betting that the Good Samaritan citizens of the city will keep their eyes open and rat out their fellow hoodlums. The oddity about this crime fighting tactic is the filtering system. How do the D.C. police decide which crimes to report? With about a million crimes reported throughout the capital every day, the police can’t possibly be sending out a text message for each crime. Also, what are the residents supposed to do exactly once they get the text message? If all the police want is for residents to keep their eyes open, then they…

EA to Release Three Old Games on the G1

Global video game guru EA has announced three new games for the G1. The three are – drum roll please…. Tetris, Monopoly and Bejeweled. Snore, yawn and snort in my opinion. Sure these are games that have stood the test of time, but did anyone actually by the G1 to play these three archaic games that no makeover can ever make feel innovative? Logic dictates that most people who bought the G1 weren’t thinking about mobile video games, but nevertheless, it is certainly a nice add on to have a mobile cell phone that packs enough punch to run the latest in cutting edge mobile entertainment. EA should have released something with a little more kick and glamour, instead of this aging trio. Where are the first person shooters that are perfect for mobile phones? RPGs and strategy…

Another Annoying Mobile Poll about the Presidential Race

Don’t you love polls that end up stating the obvious? This time around, it's the turn of Zogby International, a survey firm that has shockingly discovered that roughly 71% of mobile web users would rather see Obama as president as opposed to McCain. I wonder how much money was wasted to confirm such an obvious and irrelevant statistic. Most mobile web users are under 35 years of age, which just happens to be the demographic that Obama reigns supreme over the Republican fossil McCain. However, that demographic doesn’t vote when compared to those over 50 – who support McCain’s archaic world views and do not us mobile browsing for the most part. Is there someone who did not know this fact prior to Zogby’s unnecessary investigation? The stink of companies trying to make a…

British Authorities on the Hunt for Illegal Mobile TV

Big Brother in the UK is at it again. This time the V for Vendetta ideology is coming from authorities targeting unsuspecting souls who are watching television content on their mobile phones without a license. The British Government has stated that it will issue fines to those caught watching unlicensed content in excess of 1,000 British Pounds. At first, this naive writer logically assumed that this is a warning to those providing the content, but no; it is for those doing the watching. The fascist British Government has no limits apparently and has reverted to the days of Guy of Gisbourne with its tyrannical rule over its oppressed subjects. How exactly is someone supposed to know the difference between legal and illegal content when it is free to watch? Not all free…

Golden Tee Golf Comes to the Palm Centro

Remember the ancient arcade game where drunken barroom patrons would slam the ball controller with all their might? That game was called Golden Tee Golf and its resurging back into our lives via the Palm Centro. A company called Incredible Technologies is reviving the once legendary and vastly overrated game by creating a mobile version that will retail for $14.99. While I must confess to absolutely despising Golden Tee Golf and actual golf in general, I can relate to the fun of slamming that ball controller again and again in the hopes of hitting the perfect shot. That ball controller will obviously not exist on the hand held version and thus will indicate that Golden Tee Golf will have to get by on pure merit as opposed to novelty. (I have seen guys actually try to…

    A Tale of Two Phones

It was a tale of two phones. A great race was about to take place between two of the most prestigious cell phones in existence. In one corner, we see the current champion, the apple of every cell phone lover’s eye and the beauty queen of the mobile world – the Apple iPhone. Its challenger is the upstart rascal who dares to compete against the old guard and whose boundless energy and enthusiasm is unmatched. It is the Google G1. Both contestants ride on steeds of valor and endurance – with the iPhone on AT&T and the G1 on T-Mobile. As both contestants approach the starting line, the iPhone warlord Steve Jobs can be seen licking his chops at what he believes is an easy victory. Much to his dismay, when the dust settles, the G1 is proclaimed the winner when it comes to…

Cricket to Carry the Nokia 1606

Cricket, the biggest joke of a mobile carrier in North America (well after Boost perhaps) has just announced that it is adding the Nokia 1606 flip phone to its lackluster lineup. Not a bad addition however for Cricket, as the 1606 comes with decent specks – including a LED flashlight. It does retail at Cricket stores for $129.99; a bit steep when you consider that by adding a measly $50 to your spending budget, you could purchase a phone with a bit more kick to it. (No, I’m not talking about the T-Mobile sidekick.) While some could argue that the Nokia 1606 does give you bang for your buck, the slew of new phones that are literally coming out in droves make the 1606 pale in comparison. And if you think that cell phones haven’t become the standard by which our shallow…

Opera Mobile 9.5 is One Big Bug

Opera Mobile 9.5 is now available for Symbian UIQ3 phones. That would most certainly be a reason to break out the cheap bottle of wine that has been sitting in your kitchen for the last six months, but wait just a minute before you jump for joy at the news. Opera Mobile 9.5 is unfortunately plagued by more bugs than its computer internet cousin. (That’s pretty damn bad.) For starters, it only supports English. That makes zero marketing sense, because Opera is relatively weak when it comes to mobile browsers and limiting potential users isn’t going to help market penetration. There are a whole slew of instances that may cause a system crash when using Opera. You can find the entire list at blog.se-nse.net. Not exactly a wonderful start for the Opera, though it is…

The British Government Has Lost Its Marbles

The British government’s Orwellian philosophy is about to set a new precedent with the proposal that all cell phone owners be registered in a mammoth database that is supposedly to be used to track criminals, terrorists and other unwanted personalities. Britain has roughly 70 million mobile consumers, making this truly a daunting and extremely controversial proposal. While identification is certainly necessary when signing up for plans and other contracts that require some sort of verification by mobile carriers, pre paid phones that are purchased from second hand stores tend to be anonymous. Of course, the word ‘anonymous’ tends to be misinterpreted and confused with ‘terrorism’ by most governments and other bureaucratic entities. The conspiracy theorist inside of me…

British Doctors are baffled by Cell Phone Rash

Apparently, an outbreak of rash in the face and ear area has affected some Brits. How does this relate to cell phones you ask? Well, British Doctors believe that the rashes are a result of prolonged use of mobile phones. Doctors in the rainiest part of the world are under the impression that the nickel found in some handsets is to blame. This skin irritation has actually bee given a name. It is called ‘mobile phone dermatitis’ and is the latest in the long list of medical ailments that are suspected to have a direct link to prolonged cell phone use. Though not as serious as brain cancer, or as annoying as carpel tunnel, mobile phone dermatitis well still create enough of a ruckus amongst the health obsessed, that manufacturers who use the material to construct their…
