Tower of Power was formed by tenor saxophonist Emilio Castillo (was born in Detroit), but the band emerged in Oakland, CA. At first the band bared a name of the Motowns. After a baritone sax player (and Motowns fan) Stephen "Doc" Kupka joined the Motowns the name of the band was changed to Tower of Power and became even more popular.
