DJs and music writers Eric Hilton and Rob Garza started the Thievery Corporation project in the middle 90's. The duo founded their own label called Eighteenth Street Lounge and released several singles. In 1997 the group issued its debut full-length album, it was a complication of acid jazz and trip-hop dance music; the record became rather popular.
