The Vandermark 5 band was formed in Chicago in the middle 90's by such musicians as bassist Kent Kessler, reedist Ken Vandermark, drummer Tim Mulvenna, saxophonist Mars Williams, and trombonist Jeb Bishop. In 1967 the group recorded tits debut full-length album entitled Single Piece Flow, which was released by Atavistic Records. Target or Flag followed in 1998.
