The Jesus Lizard was founded by singer David Yow, and two ex-Scratch Acid members guitarist Duane Denison, and bassist David Sims in 1987. Two years later the band issued its first EP entitled Pure on Touch & Go Records. The same year Mac McNeilly (drums) joined the Jesus Lizard. The following year the group released its debut full-length album called Head.
