Singer/guitarist Joe King and singer/pianist Isaac Slade started the band called the Fray in Denver in 2002. They recruited ex- Slade groupmembers Dave Welsh (guitar) and Ben Wysocki (drums) and began to perform in Denver music clubs. In 2004 the band signed the record contract with the Epic label.
