The Flaming Lips was founded in Oklahoma City in 1983, and comprised such musicians as guitarist Wayne Coyne, vocalist Mark Coyne (his brother), and bassist Michael Ivins. The band specialized in pop music and was extremely popular having a lot of fans. It debuted in with their eponymous album issued on their own Lovely Sorts of Death label in 1985.
