James Mercer (vocals and guitar) founded the Shins rock band and Jesse Sandoval (drums) in the late 90's. The group's original lineup consisted of such musicians as Mercer, Sandoval, Neal Langford (bass), Marty Crandall (keyboards), Ron Skrasek (guitar), and Dave Hernandez (bass). Soon after the Shins founding Hernandez and Skrasek left the band.
