Rumors are running wild on the World Wide Web that the Palm Pre is set to debut in Canada at the end of August. The Pre, Palm’s answer to the iPhone and its only legitimate chance of staving off bankruptcy, will be distributed via Bell, Canada’s original communications provider and a former crown corporation. Bell is hoping the Pre will somewhat even the playing field in the Canadian communications and entertainment industries, with Rogers being the current undisputed King. While the Pre launch with Sprint in the United States was less than stellar, Bell is banking on Palm learning from its mistakes and hoping the impending launch will go off without a hitch. The Pre suffered from several delays in the United States until its release, yet still managed to sell over 50,000 units in its first weekend. The jury is still out on the Pre and while its specs are arguably superior to that of the iPhone 3G S, it still has a mountain to climb when it comes to besting the iPhone in marketing and brand power.
