The N86 from Nokia is heading to Whopper land as the Finnish manufacturer attempts to increase the market share of one of its better handsets. The problem Nokia has experienced regarding the N86, much like the N97, is that no American carrier is currently offering the device. Nokia, while desperate to recover from the massive beating it has taken in North America from Apple and RIM has decided to offer the N86 as a stand alone device. The N86 is actually one of the better camera smart phones currently available. It offers an 8.1 mega pixel camera and most of the IM, emails and Wi-Fi services you would expect from a high end mobile device. The problem for Nokia in this situation is not the phone, but rather the price. While the $200 price tag is not obscene when one considers the specs of the N86, it is not something that most Americans would consider paying. Most Yanks prefer the contracts offered by most carriers and will scoff at the requirement of paying such a large sum up front. That’s what happens when you run solo in America though. Good luck to Nokia, but I fear that the N86 has a long and arduous challenge in cracking the U.S market.
