First 4G Phone Unveiled by Sprint

Sprint has unveiled their first, and the first, 4G phone in the United States. Dubbed the HTC Evo4G, the device made its debut yesterday in Las Vegas at the CTIA 2010. The HTC Evo4G comes with top of the line specifications, including two cameras, a 1GHz processor and a 4.3 inch display. As for the 4G, the jury is still out. According to Sprint, 4G is ten times faster than optimal 3G speeds. However, the times ten factor also takes the optimal 4G speeds into consideration. It remains to be seen how fast a Sprint user in the middle of desolate corn country will be able to download. In any case, Sprint is starting to parade the HTC Evo4G as the second coming. No price has been released and I shudder to think of the type of contract Sprint will demand. AT&T and Verizon are…

HTC Desire Now Available in the UK

Brits who want to get their hands on the HTC Desire can now do so via the T-Mobile website. This is contrary to a previous T-Mobile announcement which stated that the Desire will become available on March 26. T-Mobile has also promised that the HTC Desire will become available in stores on March 29. Those of you wishing not to sign a contract with the devil known as T-Mobile, will soon have the luxury of a different devil in the wireless industry, as the Desire is scheduled to become available on all major British carriers in the near future. No word as of yet regarding the crippling contract the potential customers will be forced to sign in order not to pay outlandish fees upfront. The HTC Desire is another in the long line of handsets from the Taiwanese manufacturer…

    HTC Answers Apple

HTC is ready to trade blows with Apple in the courtroom. While the snubbing of Apple’s recent patent infringement lawsuit against the company was expected, HTC has dropped a hint that they are perfectly willing to return the favor to Apple in the form of a counter suit. “HTC disagrees with Apple’s actions and will fully defend itself. HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done, but we will continue to embrace competition through our own innovation as a healthy way for consumers to get the best mobile experience possible,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation. ‘Strongly advocates intellectual property protection’ has been taken as some in the…

    HTC Invades India

HTC is making it clear to the mobile community that it thinks and acts like a huge corporation. (Not that it isn’t one.) HTC plans on investing over 1 million USD in advertising in order to penetrate the fast growing market of India. This entire marketing campaign is intended to aid the launch of the HTC Smart which is scheduled to debut in India at the end of March. A cool million may not seem like much, but in reality it is plenty in a country where you can still purchase a 12 bedroom mansion with an Olympic sized swimming pool for a little over two dollars. (OK, so I’m exaggerating, but you get my drift.) HTC’s mutation into a major player in the mobile industry garnered some support when Apple sued it for patent infringement. You know you’re not someone in the…

    Patent Infringement Fiasco Continues

More and more lawsuits are hounding the mobile industry. Though to be fair, there are so many patent infringement accusations that they are hardly news anymore. In a new development, a judge in Delaware has ordered to place the Nokia-Apple dispute on hold while the ITC conduct an investigation into the matter. Apple is fighting a war on two fronts with the lawsuit against HTC in which the iPhone maker claims that the Taiwanese Smartphone manufacturer has infringed on no less than 20 of its patents. Of course, all of these lawsuits are just saber rattling. There is very little pragmatic value in patent infringement lawsuits between big corporations. Apple however, is the antagonist regarding this whole fiasco. We all remember Lord Jobs borrowing the classic line from…

Apple Sues HTC for Patent Infringement

Apple is showing its insecure colors yet again. This time, the evil regime from Cupertino is suing Smartphone manufacturer HTC for infringing on 20 of its patents. The lord of darkness himself, Steve Jobs made this ruthless statement: "We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We've decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours." Lord Jobs apparently forgot that Apple is also being sued by several companies for patent infringement. This holier-than-thou attitude is rather amusing. These lawsuits are not only a great source of comedy, they are also pointless. It appears that nobody succeeds with these patent…

HTC Legend Coming to the Android Store

Currently, a visit to Google’s Android Store features only one Smartphone, the Nexus One, That is all about to change however. HTC’s newest muscle phone, called Legend, should be joining the Nexus One this April. Google promised that it will be adding Android powered devices to its store and it looks like they plan on making good on that promise. The only real setback is that the HTC Legend will not be available in North America. HTC will begin to offer the handset in Europe by April and in Asia a short time later. Customers will of course have the option of purchasing the Legend unlocked. While American based consumers will be able to purchase the HTC Legend if they wanted to, the ‘unavailable’ moniker given is due to the fact that there will be no 3G support in the…

    HTC Scorpion Rumors

Tech dweebs and bloggers are licking their chops at the thought of a new Android device called Scorpion. The Scorpion is an HTC handset which will brandish an extremely powerful Snapdragon processor of 1.5GHz. Just imagining the possibilities of holding something with that kind of power in your hand would send shivers of ecstasy up the spine of any self respecting techie. (Or so they tell me.) The HTC Scorpion is still in the rumor/fantasy/dream phase and no confirmation has been made regarding a release date, or even if the handset will be released this year. What is believed however is that the Scorpion will be powered by Android OS. This isn’t surprising since just about every Smartphone that is scheduled for release seems to be an Android device. In any case, we…

Android 2.1 Coming to Rogers’ HTC Magic

Canadians, who were able to put down their hockey sticks and Tim Horton’s coffee long enough, would surely have noticed that the Android 2.1 will soon be available for the HTC Magic. The HTC Magic is offered in Canada by Roger’s Communications, the largest wireless provider in the great white north. The upgrade is scheduled for release sometime in the middle of 2010 and pundits believe that despite the significantly weaker specs found on the Magic when compared to the Nexus One, the upgrade should still function properly and efficiently. Dream owners will not be able to enjoy the same upgrade, with HTC claiming that the hardware requirements to run the Android 2.1 are beyond the Dream’s capabilities. On a more serious note: Roger Communications has unofficially…

Excitement Grows Over the Nexus One

The rumors can no longer be ignored. Mobile bloggers and gadget geeks are sporting massive erections as they discuss the new Google phone called Nexus One. I am positive that several bloggers couldn’t contain themselves and spilled their seed on their keyboard. That pretty much sums up the outrageous excitement that has bulldozed through the blogosphere. The Nexus One is considered Google’s first solitary project in the mobile realm. However, the Nexus One is primarily an HTC design and is rumored to be a hybrid of sorts of the HTC handsets, Dragon and Bravo. In addition, the Nexus One will come jam packed with all the usual Google software such as Maps, Navigation and Google Googles. This is all just hearsay for the time being. Until we get concrete proof, bloggers and…
