Swallow the Sun was founded in 2000 by Pasi Pasanen (drums) and Juha Raivio (guitar). They recruited Mikko Kotamaki (vocals), Matti Honkonen (bass), Markus Jamsen (guitar), and Aleksi Munter (keyboards) and recorded the "Out of the Gloomy Light" demo in 2003. Two years later Swallow the Sun released its first full-length album entitled The Morning Never Came.
