The former Red House Painters vocalist Mark Kozelek started Sun Kil Moon in 2002. The lineup included Kozelek, Tim Mooney, Anthony Koutsos, and Geoff Stanfield. The following year they issued their first album called Ghosts of the Great Highway. The Tiny Cities LP followed in 2005, the record was issued on the Caldo Verde label.
