Snow Patrol was founded in Northern Ireland by bassist/keyboardist Mark McClelland, singer/guitar player Gary Lightbody, and drummer Jonny Quinn. In 1998 the group signed the music contract with the British label called Jeepster, which released Snow Patrol's first full-length album entitled Songs for Polar Bears the same year.
