    More WP7 Announcements from Microsoft

Here comes the Windows Phone 7. Microsoft has announced that their newest mobile operating system will be available in the UK in October and a month later in the United States. Microsoft has yet to announce which mobile devices will be powered by WP7, but has announced the manufacturers, which include Samsung and LG. Microsoft COO Kevin Turner brushed aside questions regarding market saturation and how his company planned on challenging more established competition like Apple and Google. 'This game is not over. There's 200 (million) smartphones right now being sold. When you think about what is going to happen in the next three to five years, there will be 400 to 450 million sold. More than double the number. The opportunity we have is to really make change,” said…

    Microsoft Announces New Partnerships

Microsoft has announced the manufacturers that will be releasing WP7 powered phones by the end of this year. The manufacturers are LG, Dell, Samsung, HTC and Asus. Microsoft has not denied that they are using the Google approach to Android. This ideology means flooding the market with numerous phones on multiple wireless providers. In theory, this business strategy is sound. The only question is how good the WP7 will be and how the market will embrace the mobile operating system. The Windows brand is still amongst the most popular and trusted in the world and Microsoft would be wise to flaunt the operating system in fill view of potential consumers. Tech geeks for the most part would frown upon the use of WP7, with many considering it an inferior operating system.…

    Microsoft Gets Aggressive with Applications

Looks like Microsoft is serious about competing in the app market with the likes of the App Store and the Android Market. The software giant has recently announced that they are offering new tools and service for app developers in order to attract a greater interest. "We are investing a lot to attract developers big and small to Windows Phone 7 to let them understand what the opportunity is and provide as many resources as we can to help them be successful on our platform," said Todd Brix, a bigwig over at Microsoft. Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft will also be offering guaranteed financial incentives to developers. The size of the bribe is unclear at this time. All of these initiatives indicate that Microsoft has not given up on the mobile market just…

    Microsoft Abandons the Kin

That didn’t take long. Microsoft is dumping the Microsoft Kin handset and concentrating entirely on the new mobile operating system called Windows Phone 7. The Microsoft Kin was heralded (by Microsoft) to be the next big cheese in mobile social networking. The Kin offered an integration of the social services favored by teenagers in one convenient package. Sales however, have been less than stellar and Verizon has recently announced that it will be slashing the prices on both Kin devices in order to rid itself of the remaining stock. This decision appears to have been made in tandem with Microsoft, who almost simultaneously announced that it was shifting the engineer team working on the Kin over to the Windows Phone 7 development division. "We are integrating our…

Windows Live Messenger Available for the iPhone

Windows Live Messenger is now available for the iPhone and iPod. Microsoft and Apple joined forces to announce the release of the world’s favorite IM for the world’s favorite phone. The iPhone version of Windows Live Messenger comes with most of the usual trimmings we have come to expect while using the computer version. The annoying ‘nudge’ will be present, along with the Windows Live Hotmail feature. Users can also be notified of updates by friends using MySpace and Facebook. An application of this nature should now become a household service with the new multitasking. Prior to the multitasking ability, using a social chat application like Windows Messenger Live would have been a nightmare for most users. There has been no report regarding a version for the iPad, but…

Best Buy Slashes Prices on the Kin One and Kin Two

Electronic retailer Best Buy has announced that it is slashing the prices on the Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two. The Kin One will now be available for free and the Kin Two will run customers only $50. Both phones will still require a contract and expensive data package from Verizon. Both the Kin One and Kin Two were designed to appeal to the adolescent demographic and both phones have been armed to the teeth with social applications and other tools and services that appeal to pimply faced youths. Despite decent design, both Microsoft devices have experienced relatively lackluster sales performances thus far since their launch. This could be the major reasoning behind Best Buy’s decision to cut pricing. Microsoft has always played second fiddle in the mobile industry and…

    Kin One and Two Unveiled

Microsoft has unveiled two new social networking phones called the KIN One and Two respectively. These two new handsets are geared towards adolescents who enjoy wasting away their lives with social networking. The KIN devices are tailored for social networking, with such services as Facebook and Twitter built in, allowing the user to quickly access and exploit the services on these devices. While this may be a blessing in disguise for social nut jobs, it does not fit the demographic that enjoys applications. The KIN One and Two cannot download applications of any kind via an app store or market. Instead, users will only have access to services that are offered directly from Microsoft. Will these phones be a hit? Perhaps they will be amongst pimply faced youths, but are…

LG with Windows Phone 7 Series Unveiled

Yet another unveiling in the mobile industry, with the first Windows Phone 7 Series powered device. The device itself was a prototype LG handset, which has remained nameless at this time. The LG handset sported a QWERTY keyboard and received less than mediocre responses from some bloggers. The Windows Phone 7 Series has yet to be tested as an OS and the unveiling did not do much to shed light on Bill’s newest mobile venture. Up until this point, Microsoft’s foray into the mobile realm has been less than stellar, with rivals such as Apple, BlackBerry and Android out pacing Windows Mobile by leaps and bounds. One knock against Microsoft is that they did not manufacture phones on their own, which meant that they relied on other manufactures incorporate their operating…

    MS Office on the iPad?

Microsoft is considering the release of MS-Office for the iPad. While no official confirmation has been given by Redmond, speculation has it that an Office version for the iPad may be created. It remains unclear how an iPad version of Office will function. The lack of multi-tasking on the iPad will drastically reduce that functionality of Word and Excel and it is yet unknown what Microsoft intends to do in order to remedy this problem. Also, due to the lack of openness on the iPad, a great deal of cooperation will be need by both Microsoft and Apple. With rumors of a Microsoft tablet in the works, it is too early to tell what kind of cohesion will be achieved between the two competitors. Apple has a very poor history of working with other companies in order to improve…

    Windows Mobile 7 News

It looks like Microsoft is starting shift gears regarding Windows Mobile 7. Reports out of Redmond suggest that several trade shows will feature some much needed hype and unveiling for Microsoft’s new mobile OS. Barcelona is expected to be one such location, with several other top tier shows suggested, but not confirmed at this time. Windows Mobile 7 will apparently carry a whole slew of mobile tools that include Visual Studio 2010 and Office System 2010. Of course, Windows Mobile 7 will work hand in hand with Zune and Ebox. Windows Mobile 7 has lost a lot of ground over the last several months to other, more prominent, players in the mobile market. Look for Microsoft to attempt a comeback in 2010 in the hopes of tapping into the lucrative and strategic wireless sector.…
