British carrier O2 has come under some fire after it recommended that its users connect to Wi-Fi instead of 3G when at home. The laughable and pathetic corporate policy is a result of terrible 3G network reception and speeds which have plagued the wireless provider throughout much of the UK, especially London. An O2 spokesperson said, ‘We're sending out the text message about Wi-Fi to selected customers who we think will value this kind of information. This activity is intended to help customers to get the most out of their handsets, and Wi-Fi is often faster.’ O2 has also discontinued its unlimited data plan as a result of its poor network performance. The mobile phone public has not accepted O2’s recommendation, with some customers placing it in the same category as Apple telling its consumers that all phones suffer from reception problems and not just the iPhone. The only question remaining is which excuse is sadder.
