Now that AT&T has admitted to being a totally incompetent carrier, its British counterpart, O2, has followed suit. An O2 executive acknowledged that iPhone customers in London have suffered from poor service due to increased data usage on the O2 network. Britain’s leading carrier whined that data usage on its network has skyrocketed and that it is installing 200 additional towers to cope with the demand. While Apple is probably to blame somewhere in this whole fiasco, the fact that a second carrier has suffered from these iPhone related problems indicates that carriers are not fully prepared for the downloading maniacs that purchase the iPhone. Let’s face facts people. The iPhone is great for downloading and millions of users are spending more time downloading on their iPhones instead of their computers. You can’t really fault Apple for making a good handset, though perhaps they should have done a better job in investigating the competency of these carriers.
