Reports are coming in that Verizon may soon be ditching its unlimited plan as it rolls out its 4G network. The rational for Verizon and AT&T, that was the first to abandon unlimited data plans, is that the majority of users only require a small amount of data. Thus, it makes business sense to allow the mainstream users to save money on their data usage and raise the price on those so called data hogs. There has been uproar in the blogosphere regarding Verizon’s new policy, but that anger plays right into the previous point made in this article. Blogosphere writers and reader are not the mobile mainstream for the most part. These are the people would be affected negatively with the change in data prices. The average user however, does not read tech blogs and does not really voice his/her opinion regarding data plans. The mainstream is just happy to save a few dollars each much and they aren’t really concerned about the data hogs, who are in the minority.
