Palm, in an effort to increase app developer interest in its webOS mobile operating system, have released a web application called Ares. Ares is designed to aid app developers in creating new and innovative apps for the Pre and Pixi handsets. The only requirement in using this new web kit is the creation of a developer account at the Palm Ares website. This move by Palm is a natural migration from a more closed and distant app service into a more open and transparent service, that Palm hopes will encourage developers to take advantage of the webOS capabilities. As we see more and more app services morph into developer friendly platforms, it is only a matter of time before the snobbery over at Apple will have to follow suit. If Apple does not evolve with the times, it will be a very disappointing 2010 for the app leader. Good on Palm for the Ares initiative.
