Android Number One in the United States

Call it what you will, but it is getting harder and harder to dispute the fact that Android is now king of the Smartphone market in North America. Android powered phones outsold both RIM and iPhone devices, earning a staggering 33% of the total market share in the second quarter of this year. By contrast, BlackBerry devices totaled 28% of units sold and the iPhone came in third with 22%. The best selling Android devices were Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Hero and HTC Droid Eris. Going hand in hand with the Android in terms of success is HTC which is quickly becoming the most exciting and innovative Smartphone manufacturer on the planet. The iPhone is still the most popular phone as far as media hype is concerned and remains the strongest brand…

Android 2.2 Coming Soon to the HTC EVO 4G

Sprint has issued the following statement regarding the operating system upgrade of the HTC EVO 4G: “As work on finalizing the software is under way, Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future. Future devices launching with Android 2.1 will also be updated to Android 2.2. The Samsung Moment and HTC Hero will not receive an Android 2.2 update.” The new version of Android features a faster browser, better frames per second and new tools for Android developers. The HTC EVO 4G has been a huge hit for Sprint, with the devices being sold out constantly in the United States. The soon to be released and highly touted Droid X by Motorola means that Google and Android are flying high at the moment. This momentum should help as Apple continues to lead the pack in the…

    HTC Aria Coming to AT&T

$130 is what it will cost consumers in order to get the new HTC Aria. Starting on June 20th, the new HTC device will become available exclusively via AT&T. The HTC Aria is powered by Android 2.1 and features a 3.2 inch HVGA display. The phone offers a sleek design and has no sharp edges. The Aria is a very small phone, coming in at only 4 inches in length. This is obviously a deterrent for those looking for large screens, but anyone who approves of a minimalistic device will surely be impressed. Aside from the mandatory two year contract, the only other piece of bad news is the mail in rebate, which goes for $100. An impressive phone to say the least is the HTC Aria, with only those who must have a large display for the device likely to dismiss the possibility of making…

HTC EVO 4G Shatters Sprint Sales Record

Could there be a new top dog in the mobile industry? Sprint is announcing that the new HTC EVO 4G has posted the best 24 hour sales numbers in the carrier’s history. In addition, the HTC EVO 4G has sold more devices in 72 hours than previous best sellers, the Samsung Instinct and the Palm Pre, combined. While both of these devices have not done particularly well in the U.S. market, it appears that the HTC EVO 4G is on the right track. Sprint did not reveal exact number which dwarfs the excitement regarding the EVO 4G sales performance. Nevertheless, the HTC EVO 4G is yet another example of how HTC has become second to none in the Smartphone market. Reviews for the device appeared more to be like love letters from bloggers who couldn’t stop ranting and raving about the…

HTC Evo 4G Coming June 4

Sprint is hyping up the launch of the first 4G phone in the United States. The HTC Evo 4G is scheduled to make an appearance for the first time on June 4 and will be available for $200 and the mandatory soul crippling contract. "The Evo is a fantastic 3G device, but when you use it in our growing 4G coverage area, it becomes a multimedia powerhouse," said Dan Hesse, Sprint's chief executive. "The Evo experience is much like going from TV to HDTV." Sprint will charge each Evo 4G user $10 a month WiMax fee for 4G and 3G unlimited access. A small price for tech nuts, but a deal breaker for the mainstream public, who hesitate to fork over an extra $120 a year for a service that is compulsory. The launch of the new HTC Evo 4G is sure to stir up some…

HTC Droid Incredible Selling like Hotcakes

It looks like the HTC Droid Incredible is a big hit so far. Verizon has reported nationwide shortages, though the device appears to be available online. The Droid Incredible was much hyped by many in the mobile industry, with some going as far as to dub it ‘the real iPhone killer’. Whether or not this moniker becomes a reality remains to be seen, but initial sales reports are very encouraging. Of course, it helps to be on the Verizon network when it comes to market exposure and availability. Best Buy apparently still has some Droid Incredible in stock, with a price tag of $200 with a two year contract. HTC continues to out do itself with every new device and the Android operating system is proving once again that it is the premier operating system in the mobile…

Sprint to Carry the Nexus One?

While Verizon has given the Google Nexus One the boot, Sprint still seems interested in adding Google’s recent offspring to its lineup. Talks are apparently heating up between Google and Sprint regarding an agreement that will see Sprint customers being offered Google’s pride and joy in the mobile industry. However, Verizon dumped the Nexus One because it was set to launch another Android powered phone called the Droid Incredible and now Sprint is facing the same dilemma. The HTC EVO 4G is heading to Sprint and with higher specifications than the Nexus One and a comparable price to that of the Droid Incredible, it is unclear why Sprint would also want to carry the Nexus One. Google apparently does not believe that this is a problem because the EVO 4G runs on the WiMAX…

It has been announced that Warner Bros is affiliated with this new venture. Customers will be able to select and purchase a single movie and then possess a 48 hour window to watch said flick. Droid Incredible to Cause Nexus One Delay?

Some debate is raging in the blogosphere regarding the release of the Nexus One on Verizon. As we all know, The HTC Droid Incredible will be available from Verizon on April 29. This has caused some speculators and basement bloggers to question whether or not Verizon still plans on releasing the Nexus One at the end of April. The Nexus One website currently lists the release of the handset for Verizon in the spring of 2010. While the release of the Droid Incredible may cause a delay in the launch of the Nexus One phone, the device should still see store shelves no later than the summer. Those wishing to obtain the HTC Droid Incredible can pre-order a unit now online. The biggest question out of all of this in my humble opinion is the name. Who was the fool that came up…

    HTC to Develop OS?

Could mobile manufacturer HTC be planning on developing its own operating system? Rumors were planted when HTC CFO Cheng Hui-ming confirmed the possibility in a Bloomberg interview. Hui-Ming cited the advantages of a creating both hardware and software, comparing the paths taken by both Apple and RIM as something his company may try to pursue in the future. Such a bold move however would require massive amounts of resources and corporate restructuring.

Hui-ming was also asked by Bloomberg about the possibility of HTC purchasing Palm. Hui-ming was tight lipped regarding the matter, but did reveal that there was no deadline for such a purchase. Palm has been in financial trouble for some time now and several tech firms have already began to sniff around.…
