    Google Mail 2.0 out Now

The gang over at Google has made the lives of many folk all over the world just a little easier when they released Google Mail 2.0 for BlackBerry and Java phones. The biggest innovation in the new Google Mail is the option of writing mail while offline. Mail is sent once the user connects to the mobile internet, thus allowing users to draft and plan emails in advance. While not all phones support the new and delicious features of Google Mail 2.0, it is sure to be a welcome addition to those who can. Now included is a revamped search for contacts as well as offering users the option of using more than one account. Last but certainly not least is the ability to load all new emails onto the mobile device and allowing users to view them when offline. All of these additions…

Awesome Video of Google Earth on the iPhone

It is not often that I get aroused by technology, but after watching a video at fiercemobilecontent.com of Google Earth in action on the iPhone, I must confess that I almost climaxed in technological ecstasy. Google Earth looked smooth on the iPhone and the video was proficient in displaying some of the advantages of using Google Earth on a mobile platform. (Though we pretty much knew what they were already.) The app is available free of charge at Apple’s fruit store and is sure to be a monstrous hit with iPhone users. It does seem a bit odd that during the initial days of the Apple-Google mobile wars, a megalomaniac like Steve Jobs would allow his biggest threat to display their products on his home turf. Of course, Google Earth may very well be booted out of the…

    The G1 is here

The roar of the uncivilized and the uncouth could be heard with great clarity today as unwashed nere-do-wells and other undesirable personalities pillage, ravage and scrounge in a vain attempt to acquire the most coveted electronic released this year. Today, Google will start to convert the masses to its mechanical spirituality with the G1. Starting in the ultra liberal solace of San Francisco and progressing nation wide, the G1 will be available in pawn shops…. ahem, T-Mobile stores and select third party vendors. Google, not content with mere global domination, has also unleashed the Android OS upon the unsuspecting population. This ravenous pandemic will be the heart of much anarchy and chaos as hackers and middle school students from Russia will try to finagle,…

    G1 Pre-Sale Surpasses 1.5 Million Unites

It appears that the public has fully embraced the possibility that the G1 may be as good, if not better, than the iPhone. The T-Mobile pre-sale of their new flagship handset has encountered sterling results and some experts believe that the iPhone may have a real battle on its hands. The G1 has already per-sold over 1.5 million unites and T-Mobile is gearing up for another run that may very well see the most anticipated cell phone of the year eclipse the 2 million mark before the first unit hits shelves. Of course, the tremendous pre-sale results have more to do with the unbeatable Google marketing machine rather than the actual phone itself, but here’s hoping that the G1 lives up to the hype. Will the iPhone be able to compete? Probably, but every Apple mistake (and…

Gameloft to Create 10 New Games for the Android in 2009

It appears that mobile gaming is in full swing, what with EA Mobile dishing out games like there is no tomorrow and now mobile game developer Gameloft promising 10 new games for the Android to come out in 2009. That being said, Gameloft has announced that one of these games will be called Bubble Bash. While you should never judge a game by its title, Bubble Bash strikes me as the type of game similar to Tetris or Bejeweled in its nature. That doesn’t mean that it will be similar in style, but rather its core simplicity – even though many of us have spent entire weekends pulling out our hair trying to rack up a high score. This isn’t the time for simple games in the mobile industry. We’ve been there and done that with Snake and other clones of the once great game on the…

G1 Android set to enter the Mobile Wars

It was with teary delight and with much excitement that internet news hounds announced the release of the G1 Android phone. How long we have waited for a cell phone to compete with the iPhone on both a technological and marketing level. It will certainly be an interesting Christmas this year with Google’s jump into the mobile industry. How will the industry change? Will some of the rules and procedures that have been etched in stone over the last several years in the mobile industry be erased? Only time will tell, but it will certainly provide much needed entertainment and water cooler gossip. The G1 however, will have to step up to the plate. The expectations will certainly be through the roof in the mobile community and the bar may set higher than is feasible in this…

    Google My Location

Have you ever gotten lost in Harlem and were too afraid to ask for directions? Well now there is a solution to help those adventurous souls who venture into the troubled former Dutch colony. (I’m joking. I hope nobody is actually going in to Harlem for the fun of it.) The solution has been brought forth by, who else, Google. It is a new cellular app called My Location. Basically, My location means that you can perform a local Google search with relevant local content being presented. For example: say that you were walking down the street one day and suddenly realized that you forgot your wife’s birthday. No harm done really, but she may not think so. All you have to do is type in ‘expensive diamond rings’ into the Google search bar and Google will display the nearest…

The Symbian Foundation Continues to Grow

When the wolf is on the hunt, the sheep will gather together. The sheep in this case are the Symbian Foundation, who have joined forces in a valiant attempt to thwart Google’s efforts to take control of the mobile industry. Foundation members include Motorola, Nokia, Vodafone, Opera, Sharp and others. Sheer desperation has swelled the numbers of the Symbian Foundation which now has over 40 members. This corporate syndicate strategy to counter Google reeks of desperation and powerlessness to change the inevitable. With the Google Android ready to be launched this Christmas, the Symbian Foundation better pull off a miracle if it is to have any hope of remaining a perennial force in mobile communications. With all due respect to the sheep however, the wolf is coming and…

Google to Focus on Mobile Advertising

Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google and the new Darth Vader of mobile advertising, didn’t beat around the bush when he stated that ‘this is an advertising generation’, when interviewed on the CNBC talk show Mad Money. Schmidt ranted about Google’s quest for world domination and how he believed that Google’s mobile advertising revenue will eventually eclipse its internet counterpart. Schmidt also promised that the Android phone will arrive some time in late 2008. (me thinks Christmas) In short, Schmidt pretty much acknowledged that Google will become a more important social, economical and political entity than the WTO, WHO, and NATO combined. There is no denying that advertising and marketing on mobile phones is still in its infancy. The only difference is that up until…
