    FCC to Investigate Apple

Most of you are aware that Apple recently rejected the Google app called Google Voice from gracing its app store. Most of you may have shrugged off this event to just another example of the fascist and tyrannical ideology of Apple. However, the proverbial horse crap has now hit the proverbial fan. The FCC, an organization known for having just as much fascism and tyranny as Apple, has now stepped in and demanded that Apple explain why Google Voice was rejected. In addition, Apple will also have to explain to the FCC why other similar apps were removed shortly after Google Voice was denied entry. The FCC has sent Apple a list of question and has stated that it expects an answer no later than August 21. Interestingly enough, the FCC doesn’t need to wait for an Apple…

New Facebook App for the Android

Well, well, well. How the tables have turned. It was not too long ago when Facebook unofficially said that Android sucked and it doesn’t really mater if there was no Facebook app for the Android. In a world where Google rules all, even the mighty Facebook has been forced to come around. It is now more than just rumor that a new Facebook app will be available for the Android sometime next week. Facebook really didn’t have much choice in the matter. With 12 Android phones scheduled to make an appearance this year and with industry analysts calming that Android base phones will rule the market in 2010, Facebook’s was tied up harder than sleazy hooker in a cheap motel room. Look for more mainstream apps to capitalize on the Android’s awesome potential – not because they…

Camera Pro App for the G1

New app called Camera Pro is available for the G1. If you haven’t guessed what Camera Pro does; it is an app that adds plenty of new features for the camera on your G1. Camera Pro allows you to zoom you camera up to x4, white balance (this tells the camera to keep white things white – like eyes for example), golden ratio, autofocus and a few other improvements that don't sound overly sexy on their own, but surely provide for an overall better camera experience overall. The best part of the Camera Pro is the price. The app will run you 1.49 pounds, (that’s British currency and not weight) which is cheap, especially for those who depend on their G1 camera phone for the brunt of their picture taking. Camera Pro was also highly rated by the Android community, scoring a four…

    Here Comes the Android Cupcake

The Android Cupcake is scheduled to make a splash in the United States next month. The Cupcake refers to the Android 1.5 OS, which promises to make significant changes to Android based phones. Android Cupcake will include video recording, on screen keyboard, stereo Bluetooth and widgets on the homescreen. Are you salivating as much as I am? While the upgrade will not be available officially until next month, Android users are able to get an advanced copy off the internet. Be forewarned however, as the manual upgrade does require some technical knowledge and requires users to flash their phones. (Not always a good idea.) Personally, my biggest desire is to see some nicer icons on the homescreen. Every time I use an iPhone or iPod Touch, I am constantly reminded that…

Google and OHA Sued for $94 Million

For those of you who often wonder if lawsuits in the United States are to numerous and frivolous, then listen to this wacky tale. An Illinois man is suing Google and the OHA (Open Handset Alliance) for $94 million dollars over the use of the name Android. The man in question is one Erich Specht who registered the name Android Data back in 2000. However, the US Patent and Trademark Office ruled that the name 'data' was too generic and allowed Specht to trademark only the word Android. Specht’s claim is not as strong as it first appears. Android Data was dissolved in 2004 and Specht no longer owns the domain androiddata.com. Also, the money hungry Specht waited over 18 months to file a lawsuit, once it was apparent that Google and OHA were too heavily entrenched in the…

T-Mobile Sells More Than 1 Million G1 Phones

The T-Mobile G1 Android has shattered the million mark in units sold in the United States. This should come as no surprise as the G1 is arguably the best overall handset in North America right now. Sure it doesn’t have the eye candy interface of the iPhone or the sleek and professional look of the BlackBerry Bold, but the G1 outshines both of these handsets when it comes to usability, practicality and flexibility. Even though the G1 remains the only Android Smartphone currently available in the U.S. market, just about every American carrier has promised to release an Android handset by the end of this year. Pundits and critics have speculated in length about the upcoming Pre vs. iPhone 4 war that is set to take place in the mobile battlefield, but have overlooked the…

Find Business Directions on Google Maps

Google Maps is now offering mobile users the option of getting directions for specific businesses. Looking to chug a cold one? Google Maps can help you find the nearest brew hall in your area. Looking to vent some aggression after a work week that would have made being a Jewish slave in Egypt seem like a walk in the park? Google Maps can help you find the nearest firing range. Are you horny beyond imagination and desperately searching for some professional companionship? Sorry, but you are out of luck. What makes this new addition to an already stellar service so great is the fact that it does not require updates or installation of any kind. The business end of Google Maps is ready to go right now for those with Google Maps on their handsets. Gee, I wonder if Google…

Google Offering Phone Recognition Software for the iPhone

Google has recently launched a voice recognition application which will allow iPhone users to search by speaking into their handset. Google’s voice recognition software and search engine will work hand in hand with the iPhone’s ability to pin point its location to bring you the most relevant results in your area. (more or less) Sounds pretty darn good to this Funtonian, but the pessimist in me still has a couple of concerns regarding this app. First of, what happens if you have something as trivial as a cold? Will Google be able detect when a voice changes due to a malady? This service sounds great for John Smith, but what happens in the case of Ajoub Naharsalveshavelli? The poor bugger may not be able to use the program if his accent is too heavy, unless of course…

The G1 on Sale at Wal-Mart

The unholy and satanic retail giant Wal-Mart, has added the G1 Android phone to its arsenal of cheap Chinese made goods. While the G1 certainly does not fit the standard quality of most Wal-Mart products, the demonic worshippers who run the great American abyss have announced that the G1 will be on sale for a mere $150 – thirty or so less than what the handset goes for in T-Mobile stores. Customers will have to sell their soul for two years in order to get their hands on the G1 and there is no guaranteeing that the ghoulish talons of Wal-Mart won’t dig deep into the flesh of these poor patrons in other ways. I wonder if it makes sense in the long run for Google to allow the G1 to be sold at Wal-Mart. While it may increase revenue and market share, it gives the…
