    Agriculture And SMS

What do agriculture and SMS have in common, quite a difficult one isn’t it? But then sky is the limit for the mobile (poetically speaking not technically - since networks do have their coverage range). The uses to which mobiles and related services like SMS can be put to are literally unlimited. Recently another example of one such innovation was in the Asian subcontinent which is relatively less developed than the western world.

Agrocom which is related to one of the top technical institutes of India namely the IIT, has started an SMS service for the equivalent of nearly 1 dollar per month for which they sent agriculture related information about weather forecasts and related information. I hope they extent the service further to all householders so that next…

After all it’s the question of saving the globe in the long run for our future generations and it is only intelligent to have such a foresight for the future.

Well back to the mundane world of tech devices and the latest one to hit the block in the energy saver era is the solar powered Bluetooth 16 channel Nemerix GPS receiver. But don’t worry it does not only depend on the sun but also has its own power source in the form of a embedded rechargeable 1000 mAh Li-ion battery which has a runtime of 30 hours which gets extended to a hundred hours with the…

Dead Zones To Be Discovered By Cabs

Just wait and read the full news item before you get scared and click some other link thinking that this is some horror news. I wont be that scary at the beginning of the year so don’t worry at all. Actually the title does not suggest any haunted zones which are hunted by taxi drivers but places where your favourite mobile loses its soul - the network signal.

Ok, let me be more clear, actually Ericsson have launched a program in New York where they will install small devices in cabs which will detect signal strength of their network at various places in the city. Cabs have been chosen because they travel to all nooks and corners of the city and it would be easier to cover literally every inch of the ground.

This would help engineers to have better…

    SOS By Morse Code

If you have a good memory you would surely remember what SOS means, well I don’t mean the favourite red colored liquid that you use to swallow chips and fish down your throat but the Morse code signal for an emergency. But time does play strange games and the very code which was used to communicate distress to the outside world is facing SOS situation and is on the verge of extinction.

Actually the US government has made a rule that knowing Morse code will no longer be a necessary condition to become get a ham or amateur license for a radio operator. The reasons for this are very obvious since nowadays technology has grown in leaps and bounds and Morse code lovers find it difficult to believe that sometime back learning of dots and dashes was an imminent…

Industry's First Gigabit DRAM From Samsung

Samsung is a leader of sorts and comes up with various innovations all the time which help expand the horizons of the technology on various fronts including mobile phones and other handheld equipment.

The latest zing thing to hit the news from this time is the new GB-DRAM. Don’t get depressed it does NOT stand for Digital Radio with AM channels only meant for Great Britain. To the contrary it stands for Gigabit Dynamic Random Access Memory. I won’t boggle you down with technical stuff but to explain broadly this could be used in mobile phones, digital cameras and related stuff and could help to improve their memory.

It consumes lesser power than conventional memory chips and helps to reduce power drain by around thirty percent. Surely this dense memory…

    BitTorrent To Go Mobile

I presume most of you out there know what is meant by BitTorrent, for others let me explain. It a technology created by Bram Cohen where people can share information, data and files in a collective manner (peer-to-peer to be technically precise), and while downloading that file or data from the other peers, you don’t transfer it from a single user or person but in bits from each person which are then assembled together to get the complete file.

This leads to more intelligent sharing and not overburdening any one source of data. This has been extensively used in PC’s to share files, movies, music and so forth.

But the icing on the cake is that Bram has hinted that soon it might be possible to provide BitTorrent on your mobiles with the successful…

Skype Vs T-Mobile - Friends Or Foes

Skype is the limit for those interesting in chatting long to their friends (or foes) in the cyber world. Skype has been growing significantly and introduced many schemes and promotions for its users. But the downside of the story is - if many expert reviewers are to be believed - that Skype has played fowl to their own promotional partner namely the T-Mobile.

Famous critics such as Andy Abramson have tried to prove this theory by stating various facts such as the moves taken by Skype which appear quite 'innocent' on the surface but are meant somewhere deep down to cut down T-Mobile in the harsh business world. These marketing moves include Skype on Sony Mylo PDA, Unlimited One Year Calling for mere $15 and Skype/T-Mobile Hot spot access free for one year with…

    Did A Crime - Don't Take A Cab

If you live in Korea and have conducted a crime please do not use a cab to run away. I know it is considered very safe alternative to using a private car or vehicle since the chances of getting caught (or at least your vehicle getting caught after you abandon it somewhere for your life) are quite great, so the best thing that used to be considered safe was to call a cab and simply walk (read drive) away. Alas! The world is not so simple anymore and the simple thugs have to follow crooked ways now.

A couple of Korean mobile companies are going to start a service next year where all taxi driver registered to their mobile network will get information of suspects of various crimes so that it is easier to trace such criminals who use taxis to run away.

    So…
