HP has announced that it will not be releasing any Windows Phone 7 operated phones in the foreseeable future. This move was expected after HP purchased the struggling Palm Corporation, including their highly regarded but underachieving WebOS. This does not mean that HP has ceased to work with the Microsoft operating system overall. It has been reported that HP plans on releasing a slate device later this year that will be powered by Windows 7. What is interesting however is that HP recently registered the name PalmPad. This would indicate that HP has plans of releasing a WebOS powered tablet. They could be on the drawing board right now, but the idea is there. HP has not announced if it plans on using the Palm and WebOS names on the devices it creates, with some speculating that the brass at HP does not believe that the Palm name is recognizable enough by most consumers in order to be used.
