The new version of iPlayer by BBC is now available for Nokia S60 3rd and 5th addition devices. The new version of iPlayer is a web app, unlike the previous installments which were in the format of a stand alone application, and redirects users to a web page where they can enjoy all that the iPlayer has to offer. The new version offers live streaming, via 3G and Wi-Fi, as well as a new ‘favorites’ tab. Unfortunately, many Nokia devices are not currently compatible with the new iPlayer, including Nokia E72. This is typical of Nokia, which continues to overlook distribution and availability, both paramount in today’s economy. One can only assume that the iPlayer will eventually become available on most Nokia devices, but the term ‘eventually’ does not translate well to consumers who will eventually begin to look elsewhere to satisfy their desires. Let’s hope that the iPlayer becomes compatible with more devices in the very near future.
