Reports indicate that the sales of mobile phones across the globe are increasing. Keep in mind that this can be attributed more to the decrease in prices, rather then any significant improvement in the economy. A research firm called Strategy Analytics reports that sales were up by 10 percent in quarter four of 2009, when compared to total sales in the last quarter of 2008. Nokia was by far the biggest supplier of mobile devices with an astounding 38% share of the market. Samsung was a distant second, controlling 20%. Apple was not in the top five, but the study takes total sales by each company into consideration and not individual devices. Nevertheless, we should always remember that even though Apple is a big deal in the United States, it is by no means considered a leading mobile device in many developed nations. When we look at overall population and market share, Apple’s success has been limited in Asia and South America, and only partially successful in Europe.
