Billy Ocean was born on January 21, 1950, in Trinidad. His real name is Leslie Charles. At the age of eight he moved to England, and by his teenaged years regularly sang in London clubs. At that time Ocean worked at Ford Motors, but continued writing songs and performing. In 1974 he released the debut single "Scorched Earth".
