T-Mobile will be launching their second Android powered phone in the near future. The new Android smartphone is called the myTouch 3G or HTC Magic. While T-Mobile has remained tight lipped like a Gestapo agency, The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that the myTouch 3G should be out sometime later this summer or early fall. The myTouch 3G, coupled with the Touch Pro 2, also from HTC, is sure to make this summer rather interesting for Catherine Zeta-Jones’ favorite carrier. One of the issues I have with wireless providers and T-Mobile in particular is the brand recognition. The most powerful aspect of a phone is the name and the brand power that the name carries, yet T-Mobile always manages to muck up their brand recognition. Releasing two phones such as the myTouch and the Touch Pro is not only bound to confuse the average consumer, but will eventually cause the two different handsets to steal each other’s brand name. They could have easily called the myTouch the Big Cheese or something, but I guess a bit of creativity was too much to ask.
