Roxy Music may have been an innovative, experimental rock band from its founding in 1971, which even won great praise from critics and their fans, but it proved how hard a break from the past is impossible. While Roxy Music's original material, eight studio albums, all of which Top 10 on the UK charts, was rather successful commercially, their non-album single release of a john Lennon cover was their only #1 single, reaching the top in 1981.
