A non-singer of sorts, half singing and half speaking the lyrics, Mark Knopfler uses his guitar playing to add the most important element in his songs, much like additional leading vocals. Since disbanding the Dire Straits in 1995, a band he has led to international success and critical acclaim with his mellow attitude, Mark Knopfler has launched a solo career that includes his folk-rock style, movie soundtrack scores and production work with various musicians.
