Takin' Off, Herbie Hancock's album from 1962, with the song Watermelon Man on it, caught Miles Davis' attention. Then Davis' drummer introduced the two and Herbie Hancock became the pianist and jazz rhythm engine behind the second great quintet that Davis assembled. From behind the piano, Hancock was able to develop new sounds previously unheard and unused in jazz music, setting himself as a great musician and innovator all himself.
