Glenn Miller was a popular jazz and swing bandleader for only a short period, from 1939 to the time he was recruited to fight in the Second World War in 1942, in which he died. His style was orderly, rigorous and demanded discipline from his players, unlike the jazz improvisers of the time, but it proved most successful commercially and brought Glenn Miller the admiration of not only swing music fans but the entire music world.
