While carrying socially conscious messages in their lyrics, the Geto Boys are also extremely violent in the words they use. Formed in 1988, the Geto Boys have been a precursor of sorts to the dirty South rap style, with a soulful style hip hop, unlike that of the west or east coasts. The Geto Boys are clearly an identifiable southern style rap group.
