Joel fired his longtime manager and former brother-in-law Frank Weber in August of 1989 and sued him for 90 million dollars. The singer fired his manager as there were discrepancies in the bookkeeping. The court later awarded Billy Joel two million dollars and dismissed a thirty million dollar countersuit.
