Ultravox (first called Ultravox!) was founded by John Foxx (real name: Dennis Leigh, vocals and keyboards) in the United Kingdom in 1974. Foxx recruited Chris Cross (bass), Steve Shears (guitar), Billy Currie (violin and keyboards), and Warren Cann (drums) and signed the record contract with the Island label, which issued the band's first eponymous album in 1977.
