Kris Roe (singer and guitarist), Mike Davenport (guitarist), Marco Pena (guitarist), and Derrick Plourde (drummer) in California founded the Ataris in 1997. Soon Plourde left the band and new drummer Chris Knapp entered the Ataris. The group's debut album called Anywhere But Here was issued on Kung-Fu Records.
