The Alarm appeared in Rhyl, Wales in the early 80's. Nigel Twist (drums) and Mike Peters (vocals and bass), Dave Sharp and Eddie MacDonald founded the group (both: guitar). In 1981 they issued their first single called "Unsafe Building." The group's debut full-length Declaration followed three years later.
