Born in 1956, in Vermillion, SD in Shawn Colvin began singing in her own group called Shawn Colvin Band. During the 80's she worked in such shows as Dinettes, Lie of the Mind, Pump Boys, and Diamond Studs. In 1988 Colvin signed the music contract with Columbia Records, which released the full-length Steady On the following year.
