Heaven 17 did not come about from nothing. Instead, two of its members Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware were members of an earlier band, The Human League. After leaving that group, the two formed the British Electric Foundation, released an album with BEF, which had a number of musicians take part in, including the person who will become the Heaven 17 vocalist a couple of years later, Glenn Gregory.
