Disney Buys Tapulous

Disney has just raised its stake in mobile gaming by purchasing the mobile game developer Tapulous. It definitely is a strategic move and it highlights the importance we put on mobile," said Steve Wadsworth, president of Disney Interactive Media Group. That statement is completely accurate as Tapulous is considered one of the premier gaming developers for the iPhone and is the creator of the popular game Tap Tap Revenge. We have been very successful on the iPhone," said Bart Decrem, the chief executive of Tapulous. "We have been thinking, 'How do we position ourselves to succeed?' And after several conversations with Disney, we could see that we have a shared vision of the future and the iPhone as a mobile platform." The Tapulous crew will remain

New Robin Hood Game for the iPhone

Game developer Nordcurrent has released a new action game called Robin Hood: The Return of Richard. Developed for the iPhone and iPod, the latest reincarnation of Robin Hood sees the popular brigand and his merry and fruity band of men take on the evil Sherriff of Nottingham, while King Richard is off somewhere, doing something else. 12 levels of action filled with tights and bow strings are featured in this game. I have always been a fan of Robin Hood, but I just can’t help but feel a bit metro (ya, we’ll use the word metro) when playing games that feature the medieval hero. Too many men in tight pants wondering around in the forest, chasing other men and impaling them with all sorts of long and protruding objects makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable. No price has been

App Store Very Good for Gameloft

I personally am not a huge fan of iPhone games, but there is no denying that they have been successful in becoming an integral part of the App Store. With that success, monetary rewards bloom with abundance. Gameloft, one of the leading video game companies, has reported an increase in revenue of 231 percent in 2009, when compared to the previous year. Gameloft’s annual financial results show that 25 million USD were generated from sales in the App Store in 2009. This success can be attributed to not only stellar game creation, but the overall emergence of the App Store as the leading wireless application provider in the world. The total earnings from game apps sold on the App Store comprise around 22 percent of Gameloft’s total earnings. This is certainly a significant

Doom Classic Available On The iPhone

I remember Doom. Having just discovered computers as a young child, I happily wasted countless hours blasting aliens and bashing my keyboard. Now, the great first person shooter that started it all is available for the iPhone. A reason to celebrate? Not really. From time to time, many of us avid gamers will replay games from the past in hopes of recapturing some of the nostalgic enjoyment that was inseparable from our childhood. Unfortunately, most of us quickly realize that you can never go back. The classic Doom looks so dated now, that it hurts my eyes. Placing the same old game on the iPhone doesn’t make it any more tolerable. An old and forgotten game on a new platform doesn’t really increase the fun factor in my book. Am I a huge fan of playing video games on the

Apple to Produce Mobile Games?

Much like ancient Rome and modern day America, Apple’s determination for world conquest knows no bounds. Not content with their total domination of the digital realm and young children in impoverished nations working in sweat shops, they are now casting a greedy eye in the direction of mobile gaming. The great tip off was a job posting by Apple for gaming and media engineers for the iPod and iPhone. Not a confirmation that Apple is headed in that gaming direction by any means, but still some sort of indication of Apple’s future plans. It only makes sense for Apple to include gaming in its wide range of services. The mobile gaming industry is set to explode faster and harder than a fat man walking out of Appleby’s and Apple wants a whiff of the action. (Pun intended.) It

Resident Evil: Uprising for Mobile

Capcom, in an effort to leech of its successful Resident Evil franchise, has released Resident Evil: Uprising for the mobile. While there is cause for celebration in theory, fans of the survival horror series will be disappointed to discover that Resident Evil: Uprising offers a top down view, very similar to old Final Fantasy and Fantasy Star games. This removes the horror aspect from the game, which was the true highlight we have come to expect from Resident Evil. Who can forget walking down the hallway, only to be attacked by a rabid dog that comes crashing through the window in Resident Evil 1? Or how about the grotesque super zombie that drops from the ceiling in Resident Evil 2? Resident Evil: Uprising is not a bad game, but it removes that classic Resident Evil
